What's to do in Halifax & Sydney

My wife and I are cruising and we will stop at Halifax and Sydney. We will spend the day in both locations. We love to hike. What can you recommend we do for each of these locations?

You'll find lots of things to do in Halifax.
If there are side trips from Sydney I would recommend that you take a trip to the Fortress of Louisburg. It is an amazing historical reconstruction.

Halifax is well know for its vibrant downtown and Harbour district. Boardwalks, marine museums, historic sailing ships, restaurants and pubs overlooking the water, historical warehouse buildings renovated into shops and boutiques, a Market, a Brewery offering tours, a Historic Fortress (the Citadel), a Casino, boat tours, etc. Some downtown pubs offer live Celtic music occasionally. There was a tourist information centre on the Harbour with lots of advice, even knew where there was live entertainment that day when we inquired.

All walkable in a day (although just one day won't allow you to spend as much time as you might like in some of these). You should be able to find a downtown/harbour map detailing locations of all these points of interest.

halifax, just spend the day walking around.
from sydney, either do the fortress of louisburg or, depending how much time you have, rent a car and do a drive up to ingonish and do a bit of the cabot trail. but you'd need about 7 hours to make this worthwhile.
or rent a car (or take a tour if offerred) into baddeck. you could waunder the town for an hour and then, when i was there, there was a nice 2 hour sail boat ride offerred on the lake.

In Halifax, if you have time, do take in the North End Gallery area and Dresden Row. It is getting increasingly interesting.
