I'd be really grateful for any advice on what I should so for a 8 night trip to Newfoundland as it's going to be my first trip, flying into St John's from England.
I was thinking of staying first night in St John's and then heading over to Trinity for 3 nights before then driving over to the Gros Marine Park on the Western side for 3 nights and two days of walking before the long drive back to St John's.
Do you think this is too ambitious in terms of distances? (I do love driving!)
Any other suggestions as to where I might go other that the Trinty area at St John's for a couple of days to see a different side of NF? I'm into walking and being outdoors.
Any thoughts really appreciated.
Many thanks
what to do in a week? first time in NF!

Mark: I am glad to hear you like driving, because with this itinerary, you will be doing a lot of it. The drive across Newfoundland on the Trans Canada is long and monotonous; reminds of the drive across Northern Ontario. To really enjoy Newfoundland, you have to get out on the Coast, ( any of them ), and to me, that means reducing your intinerary to include smaller areas but with more coastline. You could easily spend a week around the Avalon Peninsula, whcih includes St Johns, or include the South Shore and visit around Ferryland; maybe a side trip over to St Mary's Bay to see the awesome bird spectacle. Depending on when you come, you should try to go on a whale watching tour, or, if budget is a concern, find out from the locals where the Humpbacks come close to shore to feed on the Capelin. St Johns and Trinity is doable in a week. Or if you prefer the West side which is more mountainous, stay on that side and have a good look around. There is lots to see and do.
thanks for the reply - decided to hang around St John's and Trinity for the week!
