Way up North - what to do and see in the Yukon???

Planning a short trip to Whitehorse in October - what are the interesting things to do and see?? I'm more interested in nature and good food than in bars or nightclubs. Any good restaurants? hotels??? shopping???? bookstores????? How convenient is the public transportation?
