Born and grew up in Montreal. Left almost 20 years ago but have returned several times for various events. Last week for a high school reunion.
Stayed at a relative's home near downtown so no lodging.
Observations.
Surprised to see so many pay phones on the streets.
Biggest expense was parking around the city at $3. per hour.
No right turn on red almost got me a few times.
Surprised to see more stop signs even at mid-block.
Some streets that went from left to right now go from right to left.
Montreal is still beautiful in the right weather. And we had it!!! Sunny and 80 degrees (F).
Some old favorites.
Picked up Bar-B-Ribs. As good as I remembered. But nobody eating inside. Is the West Island Bar-B open?
Picked up Schwartz's smoke meat sandwiches. Topped off the trip.
Doubled down at Moe's on the West Island across from Fairview.
Disgusted to see that the Prince Authur restaurants appear to have hit hard times. One of my favorites is still there but many on those two blocks are closed. What happened?

There are many payphones still around but it's rare people use them because everyone owns cell phones now. They even had to raise the price from 25 cents a call to 50 cents a call.
You can only turn right on a red light off the island of mtl.
Lost of 1 way streets. Great scenery, nightlife, architecture, culture and friendly locals.
I lived in Montreal my whole life. When did you live here?
I left in 1993. We have relatives in Montreal and Ottawa so return every now and then for various events.
This time it was my wife's high school reunion.
Went to Beaver Lake, the Chalet. Stopped at Westmount and Mount Royal Lookouts. Drove down to the Olympic Stadium.
Stopped at the house I lived in when I was born as well as the last one we lived in on the West Island.
You have a point about the pay phones. I saw a lot but nobody using them. I even saw two on diagonal corners. Why not start getting rid of them?
