Vancouver rental: Too Far Away?
Hello,
I am looking at a one-bedroom rental in the vicinity of W 28th Ave and Ontario St. in Vancouver, BC.
I don't mind being in a residential area and having to drive a bit to see other parts of the city, or even taking the bus into the downtown core. I will also have my car with me, so being able to park with no additional fee is attractive to me.
I don't know this area of the city, so any knowledgeable input would be helpful. Is it too far out to explore downtown, Stanley Park, etc.? What's the area like?
Thanks!

I should add that when I map out the location, it seems to be near some features that sound nice to explore as well: Vandusen Botanical Garden, Queen Elizabeth Park.
I may be there the weekend of the dragon boat races, and am interested in a jaunt further south to the Richmond Night Market as well.
It seems well situated for these activities, but again, I don't know the area. Yea or nay?

Good morning,
West 28th & Ontario is definitely not too far to explore downtown, Stanley Park, etc.
That is a nice area, right near Queen E Park and Nat Bailey Stadium. I believe this is a nice higher end residential area. You are not far from Shaughenssy and Kerrisdale which are the very high end areas of Vancouver. You'll find smaller homes with well kept properties and lots of street parking - since I believe a lot of the houses don't have room for garages. Lots of trees and greenery.
You can take the bus downtown - I wouldn't suggest driving down, or if you do, avoid street parking as the toll rates are horrendous ($2-$3 dollars for a 1/2 hour on the street).
You can check out the transit website to find out how to get from the house to downtown, Stanley Park, etc.
If you are planning on going to the Richmond night market..make sure to get there early, or plan on spending some time trying to find parking. You probably won't find tons of things to buy, but it is great to spend a warm Friday or Saturday night and wander around and check everything out.

Have a great visit!

That's actually a really cool neighbourhood. Ontario Street is one block (or is it two blocks? doesn't matter) from Main Street. Along that stretch of Main are a lot neat shops and restaurants, and it's like that along Main all the way down to Broadway.

Thank you for your responses and tips. It sounds like this is a good area and a rental that I should check out further.
I appreciate your input and look forward to exploring Vancouver!
