biddingfortravel.com is merely an informational site telling you how to use priceline.com to your greatest advantage. I have used biddingfortravel.com many times and used their link to priceline. If you use their link today, there is hotel bonus money available (it is explained on that site). I have gotten unbelievable prices using priceline with the information gleaned from biddingfortravel.com. It is totally legit. The type of room you get depends on the hotel. You are not guaranteed any size of room or bed configuration, but I have never gotten a bad room or been denied the type of bed configuration that I desired.

Well, I put a bid for a 4 star hotel and could not get anything even for $100 US. i don't know how the people on bidding for travel got any. I went down in price and got a 3 star for $70.
Is it worth it? I guess so, but you do risk getting a hotel that you might not have chosen otherwise. I got the Sheraton Wall centre and by the reviews it does not look too hot.I am not thrilled. So, if the hotel is really important to you, you're better off going to expedia or yahoo or some othet discount travel site.

Nina

Nina, No offense, but $70 for a 3* seems kind of high. Was that the first price you bid for a 3*? Most of the people reporting on 3* hotels in Vancouver (on biddingfortravel.com) seem to have paid in the $35-$50/night range. There were two free rebid zones that you could have used, so you could've started low (around $35) and gotten two rebids--I think you could've gotten a 3* for less than $70.

Anyway, a lot depends on inventory availability, so maybe the 4* hotels didn't have any availability for your particular dates. (This sometimes happens when they have availability for some but not all of your dates.)

Anyway, I agree with you that if you have to have a specific hotel, don't go with Priceline.

I did start very low, at $35, and i think I must of put about 12 different bids. It just didn't work for me. I think $70 is a fair price for this hotel (after I checked it out), but a bargain worth of risking where I'm staying.........no.
I read all the messages on bidding for travel and i swear that most of them have to be from people that work for priceline because how can they get a 4 star hotel for $35 on dates that were similar than mine? I think it is a hoax.

Nina

Bev, it is no hoax. I've used BFT and Priceline many times. You can see my winning bids posted under my user name there "acelite". I certainly don't work for priceline. You just have to be patient when using Priceline. As is clearly explained on BFT, inventory changes almost daily. Many times I have not been able to get a hotel for my desired price one day, but get it for lower than expected when bidding a couple days later.

I travel regularly and have literally saved thousands of dollars using priceline. I recently stayed at the Westin Michigan Avenue in Chicago for $65/night when the best conventional rate available was $189.

BiddingForTravel (BFT) isn't a hoax. I've used the bidding information there to get lots of hotel rooms via Priceline for a lot less than I was able to find on Expedia, Travelocity, Travelweb, and the various hotel Web sites. I've recommended the BFT site and Priceline to friends and family, and they've had success, too.

I post on BFT under the user name "wanative57". I've gotten 3* or 4* hotels in Vancouver, Portland, Boise, Tucson, Scottsdale, Austin, and San Antonio, and the most I've paid is $50/night.

Earlier this week I stayed in the Westin La Cantera Resort in San Antonio for $50, when the best rate I saw on any other site was $199. I had tried to get a 4* Riverwalk hotel in San Antonio via Priceline, but failed at up to $100. (This is Fiesta week, a major celebration in San Antonio, so I doubt there were many rooms available downtown.) So you can't always get exactly what you originally tried to get, but our backup, La Cantera Resort, was a fabulous hotel--my wife and sister are still talking about what a great place it was, and all for a winning bid of $50.

I'm not a Priceline employee, nor do I have any financial interest in Priceline or BFT. But I like a good deal, which I can usually get via Priceline. But I'm sure I wouldn't have gotten such good deals if I hadn't read about other people's successes on BFT.

Thank you all for your replies. Now if I could only be guaranteed that I would get the Sheraton Suites Le Soleil I would be happy. The 4 star hotels are: Sheraton Suites, Fairmount Vancouver, Westin Bayshore and Pacific Pallisades so far as I can tell from reading the Bidding site.As it is our 30th Wedding Anniversary..I am not sure if I want to get a small room? I have never used the bidding/priceline site, I have a lot to learn yet! I do not want the Pacific Pallisades either? What a dilema!

Bev,

According to the reports on BiddingForTravel, it looks like the Westin Bayshore has come up eight of the last nine winning bids for a 4* in the downtown zone. Le Soleil came up most recently, but that was only a single occurrence. So my guess (and I can't emphasize enough that this is only a guess) is that you'd probably get the Westin Bayshore.

It sounds like you really want Le Soleil and it sounds like you really don't want Pacific Palisades. Unless you're willing to risk getting a hotel you absolutely don't want (or getting a hotel that's okay, but not the one you really want), I'd recommend not using Priceline.

For a special occasion like a 30th anniversary (congratulations, by the way), I'd just scan the Web for the lowest price I could find on the hotel I really want and book it there. Priceline's great, but in my humble opinion it isn't worth the risk of being disappointed on such a special occasion.

Wherever you end up staying, be sure to call ahead and let them know about it being your 30th anniversary. Maybe they'll give you a free upgrade to a nicer room, or at least some champagne or something to help you commemorate the anniversary.

Don...Thanks for your insightful reply and congrats. I have managed to get the corner suite at Sheraton from $235.00 to $205. I am also trying for free parking and breakfast. Any thoughts on how to do it for less...Wedgewood is around $200.00 for the smallest and standard room. I still have 6 months to go though...it will be a thrill to return to where we got married! I agree..for such a special 4 nights...I would not be happy with Pacific...have stayed at the Westin Bayshore...nice but older although I understand that it has undergone renovations and so large..could get a lousy room too! Thanks for the advice.
