My husband and I are taking an Alaskan cruise from Vancouver next month. We are flying to Vancouver a day early and are looking for a nice inexpensive hotel in a good area. We would also like suggestions about what to see and do in our one day there, and some restaurant recommendations.

rosalind, we have had good success using Priceline for a 4 star property. Our price has varied depending on the season (usually $55-76) and these are beautiful properties right near the waterfront. Try biddingfortravel.com for some helpful information. There are others much more informed than we, as Vancouver is home to a plethoria of wonderful restaurants. We have enjoyed Joe Fortes, and some place down on Granville Island by the market and on the harbor but I cannot remember the name (we ate outside on the pier) and also the Salmon House in West Vancouver. You will no doubt receive many recommendations and there is so much good food that you may want to specify your preferences to narrow the search -- e.g., Thai, seafood, etc. etc. Have fun -- we hope to take that same vacation one year.
We are taking the same cruise in June. We're staying at the Sheraton Wall Centre, for the 2 nights prior to our June 19th cruise. My travel Agent stayed there last year as well, and she booked us, as well as her, there again, so I think it must be nice.
I hope so, too -- we are staying there at the end of our vacation in late September. By the way, I think Joe Fortes is very near. Will you post a trip report upon your return? Would love to hear how you enjoyed the cruise and what you thought of the Wall Centre. Looking forward to hearing from you after your trip.
