vacation RUINED by accommodation on Vancouver Island

My vacation was ruined by the Traveller's Inn hotel Downtown.
I had booked a suite, had given cc details, had got a confirmation number but when I arrived all the suites were gone and I got a room which was noisy, smelly ( smoking room) which had a used condom just under the bed........nice, only found it because I lost my shoe under the bed and was groping around for it . I complained and a young upstart told me that "she" was the manager and "these things happen", well perhaps they do but they shouldn't and as there was absolutely no compensation other than a cold shoulder I want everyone to know that I will make sure that everyone I know will not go there and I will devote my life to making sure that people on this site know about the kind of administration they have too.

I've known people who stayed there without incident but, judging by other negative comments on this site, this outfit seems to be too inconsistent, and is flippant with complaints. Sometimes the savings just aren't worth it.

Jennifer, I appreciate the warning, as we are heading to Vancouver Island next summer. Where on Vancouver island is the hotel located so we can avoid it?

So sorry this happened to you. I have never stayed there but I did find a web page - why don't you try writing to upper management with your concerns and complaints.

I am sure that they would be most displeased to hear of your experience.

Jennifer, I think it is really cool that you are devoting the rest of your life to this important cause!

I've stayed at the Travellers Inn in Victoria also (not the downtown location - I think there are 4 or 5 Travellers Inns in Victoria altogether), but you get what you pay for. Their rates are $40.00 per night in the low season, my room was noisy also, paper thin walls, but were clean.

Jennifer: This company survives on volume. They spend a lot on advertizing, extolling their low room rates. As others have said, in this case, you get what you pay for. I have had unsatisfactory experiences staying in their Victoria locations as well.
If you are looking for a quieter, quaint Inn, try the James Bay Inn in James Bay, ( near the Legislature, and the Inner Harbour). This is an older establishment that has been renovated. It is resonaably priced, and is close to downtown, and the Juan de Fuca Strait waterfront along Dallas Drive.

Thank you for suggestions of other hotels which are better but you only get one chance when you come from Malaysia.
Also when you book a hotel you don't get the run down on it as you may do if you either lived in the country or had constant access to the Internet.
I realize that you get what you pay for however one should not expect that the standard and behaviour of staff is so poor, the standard of hotel is not 3 star as advertised ( perhaps they should give it a one star rating THEN we would all understand)
I wrote to them and have never had a reply so I doubt that they care whether people are happy with their product or not. Perhaps they think that if someone is from another country they don't have to court their pleasure, I don't know.
I just want other people who may have saved up for 2 years for the holiday of a lifetime, to know what to expect. Perhaps too the hotel is guilty of incorrect advertising.
Anyway hopefully 2 or 3 people won't go there again.

Jennifer,

What a terrible thing to happen on your holidays! That just makes me sick to hear! I'm always looking for a "bargain" but would hope this is not what would come along with it! i could understand leaky roof, paint chipping off walls, tv that doesn't work properly. But at least have the room cleaned! Thanks for the warning!!!!

Funny that; we were on the ferry from van to vic and saw the signs and leaflets about these places and how cheap they were.

When we drove down to Vic, we saw somewhere else which was nicer and took that instead of going to Travellers. So glad I didnt bother now!!!!
