trip report toronto/falls

Just a mini trip report. Feel free to e mail me any questions. Went with husband and 2 teens (boy & girl). Flew into Toronto rented car and drove to Niagara. Easy drive. Did Maid of the Mist and clinton Hill. If we didn;t have a reservation would have driven back but..l.stayed at the Embassy suites. Amazing fallsview room, watched the fireworks from the room! Stayed at the Hilton in Toronto which was so much nicer than we expected and a great location. Walked everywhere, shopped , ate, saw Hairspray. Regrets? Wish I spent more time in Greektown, it looked fun and hated the CNE, wished we did Paramount Wonderland instead. Thanks for all the advice!

Hi CSS,
We just got back as well. Stayed at the Delta Chelsea which was excellent. Went to the Danforth (greektown) and walked from Donlands subway stop to Broadview. It was very cool. There is a store there for the duration of the Olympics that sells official Olympic pins and other Olympic souvenirs. It was on the south side just west of Logan st. We went to the Distillery District for dinner. The restaurant (Boiler House) told us the galleries were open until 9. They actually close at 7 and it was pouring rain. We begged the restaurant to let us in early. Too bad about the CNE. Maybe you can come back to TO and go to Wonderland!

Question regarding the Embassy Ste:

1. I read so much complaints about the elevator wait; emailed the hotel last week re the new elevators; they replied they have been up and running. Still wondering if that has improved the situtation. How long is an average wait for the elevator? I don't want to take the stairs w/ a baby & stroller fr. 20 floors-- unless it's emmergency.

2. How was the breakfast buffet? Was it a long wait-- after 8AM?

Thanks,

K.

Embassy suites elevator problem has been fixed I arrived two days after the new ones were up and running the two new elevators service the lobby to the 18 th floor and the other 4 service lobby- 19th-42nd floors I never waited more that 2-3 minutes The breakfast is nice but go early to get the best seats and view of the falls it gets crowded fast .

We were there on the 2oth and the elevator wait was about 10 mins. You don;t need to take the steps, the elevators work fine they just have alot of people using them. The breakfast was very crowded but my husband went down first and got a table then we came down.

How early should we get to the buffet to beat the crowd? 8AM? I asked since it'll be tough for us to adjust the 3 hrs different fr. the West coast.

Thank you very much for confirming the elevator's improvement. I was thinking of switching to the Marriot last week. #:-S

Our family (mom, dad, 13y/o and 107 y/o) just got back from N. Falls and Toronto too.

1) At N/Falls, stayed at Marriott Fallsview. Gorgeous fallsview room, Maid of the Mist was a kick.

2) At Toronto we had a suite at the Delta Chelsea but we left after one night. The room was dingy and down at heel, hotel vastly overcrowded -- for example we had to wait an hour to get into the room (at 4pm) and then another 30 minutes for bell help with bags. We love Delta hotels generally and we were treated fairly by the staff, which gave us over 50% off the price of the suite when we left, even though it was clear we were not going to stay. We have never left a hotel before and are a pretty flexible bunch so this was a different experience for us. We would go back to other Delta hotels in a flash but the Chelsea needs a makeover, or at least our room did.

3) We went instead to the Intercontinental in the Yorkville area. Hotel was MUCH nicer and even though we were all in one room rather than a suite, we were much happier there. Better neighborhood for shopping and walking, better health club, more comfortable, quieter, you name it.

Our favorite Toronto experiences -- an Indian meal at a restaurant called the Host which everyone in my family agreed was the "best ever"; trips to the Toronto Zoo, Royal Ontario Museum and Ontario Science Center; lunch in Greektown; and a nibbling tour of Kensington Market (I did that last one myself while the kids rested one morning).

All in all, we found Torontonians to be pleasant, friendly, and helpful (except for the scalpers selling tix to Blue Jays games, whom it would have been best to avoid).
