My fiancee and I are getting married in June, in Ontario, and are thinking of honeymooning in PEI. We would prefer to take a train for as much of the trip as possible; however, it seems like the trains only go as far as New Brunswick or Nova Scotia, so we aren't sure how best to proceed from there. Has anyone else tried to do this sort of trip, or do you have advice on how best to arrange it?
Thanks,
Greg

Hi, there are no trains on P.E.I. and limited public transportation (a small bus route in Charlottetown).
You could take the train to Halifax and have a rental car reserved to pick up there. The drive from Hfx to Charlottetown is about 3.5 hours.
halifax is a good option. it's also a really nice city to spend a few days in. from there you could take the confederation bridge over to pei, spend time there, then take the ferry back to pei. close by the ferry terminal on nova scotia is a lovely little town called pictou. you could stay there for a night and explore that area a bit before returning to halifax for your train back. or skip pictou and just return to halifax.
PEI would be a wonderful place to honey moon. Lots of romantic spots - ie. the beach/watching the sunset, awesome hiking/biking trails, lobster suppers, excellent restaurants, drive-in theatre, live theatre. I also suggest that you rent a car, unless you are avid cyclists!!!. If these are not options for you - then check into taking the bus - http://www.acadianbus.com. The bus could take you to Charlottetown from Halifax or maybe Amherst. Amherst is closer than Halifax so you wouldn't have to backtrack. As mentioned, however, there is limited public transportation once you reach PEI.
Some food for thought.... have fun planning!
greenwich provincial park on pei was a beautiful spot. there was only two people on the beach when we went. i thought it would be a wonderful romantic spot for a couple.
If I was doing this, train to Moncton, rental car to PEI and then to Halifax. Train from Halifax beck to Upper Canada.
