Toronto to Gros Morne National Park

Hello,

We're planning a 8 days road trip (including travel time) from Toronto to Gros Morne National Park in NFL, possible P.E.I (I think we might not have enough time). This is our first road trip, any advise, suggestion, recommendation would be much appreciated! We love outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping etc.

Thank you so much for all your help!

Are you planning to drive from Toronto to Gros Morne and return in 8 days?

If so, I would reconsider. It's roughly 2,000km from Toronto to North Sydney and at a minimum that is two very long days of driving. So you would then have 4 days left, including the 6hr ferry trip each way. That's a lot of effort for very little time in Gros Morne.

If you only have 8 days available, consider flying to and from Deer Lake and renting a car there. When you deduct the cost of gas for 4,000km, 2 overnight stays ( I assume you plan to take the overnight ferry each way) and the ferry charges), flying and renting shouldn't be too much more expensive. I'm also not sure how long you would want to drive the day after an overnight ferry crossing--you likely won't get much sleep.

If you only have 8 days and can't afford to fly, then consider changing your destination to PEI. That road trip is quite do-able and while PEI doesn't compare in my opinion to Newfoundland, it is still a very attractive and enjoyable place to visit.

On google maps I get just under 2400 kms driving to Gros Morne. Plus the ferry. In August you can fly to Deer Lake for $450 or so. Rental car will be $600 or perhaps a bit less. They are expecting a very busy summer (Canada 150) so reserve while you can.

If you drive and still manage to hike up Gros Morne mountain you deserve an award.
