Toronto-one day only
We'll have one day in Toronto at the end of a four week holiday so not much time and no money left!!We have been there before and have had City tours.Any ideas for what to see or do between 9am and 5pm please?

Hi, take the ferry to the Toronto Islands and maybe rent a bicycle or roller blades. It's like a great park with no cars (except for an occasional parks car) and has paved roads throughout. There is a lovely cafe there or bring a lunch along and picnic.
The Distillery District is another option. Lots of galleries, shops and restaurants in an old refitted distillery. Generally some event or live music (free) on their enormous patios on weekends.

Museums -- there's a big spectacular addition to the Royal Ontario Museum, the Ceramics Museum has been completely renovated, (Both at Bloor and Avenue Road) and there's a new Museum of Inuit Art at Harbourfront.
Plus the Shoe Museum, and the TExtile Museu, and, inside the CBC Headquarters building, a broadcasting museum.
And big renovations at the Art Gallery of Ontario, although I don't knowwhen the new parts open up.
You could plan a day long walk, starting with a decent breakfast someplace interesting, a good lunch somewhere interesting, and one final drink in a nice bar at 5 pm.
Any idea where you will be at 9 in the morning and 5 at night?
We could plan a route for you.

We are staying at the Strathcona hotel so will be leaving there in the morning.We have to be at the Bond Place Hotel to get the coach to the airport at Hamilton about 5 o'clock I think.The only problem with a long walk is that my husband can't walk as far as he used to!!

There are one-day transit passes that let you travel all day for about the price of three individual trips.
They used to start after 9 or 9:30; probably still do.
Assuming the ability for medium walks, instead of long ones...
You could go over to St. Lawrence Market for breakfast, go down to Harbourfront and look around, and visit the new Museum of Inuit Art. From there, walk up to the Steamwhistle Brewery *it's in the shadow of the CN Tower) and have a tour,
Go over to Spadina Avenue and Chinatown, visit Kensington market. Then have lunch n a Chinese or Vietnamese restaurant in the neighborhood.
From there, go east on Dundas street and visit the Art Gallery of Ontario for a couple of hours,.
From the AGO, keep walking east on Dundas until you get to Yonge Street, and walk across Dundas Squate to the Bond Place hotel.

Just a quick note on the AGO. Their website indicates that they will be closed for renovations from fall 2007 until mid-2008. The close date for a few of their special exhibits is scheduled for Oct. 7/07. You might want to ensure that they are still open before dropping by on Oct. 19/07.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions.The idea of the the Transit Pass and BAK's route sound good so I think we'll probably stick with that.I've never had Vietnamese food.Any recommendations?
