Anyone familiar with Halifax and Dalhousie University located there? My daughter is interested in marine biology and their college viewbook looks interesting on the subject.Where would you stay in Halifax and how would you fly there from the midwest in the states? Thanks for any help!

Dalhousie is one of the top universities in the area. Your daughter would do good there I am sure. Not sure which state you are from, but I know from say Chicago you could use Air canada via Toronto or Montreal. Another good choice is using Continental Air which flies via Newark
MacLeans Magazine (a weekly newsmagazine) publishes an annual university ranking issue that's very informative (also includes information for international students such as visas, etc) - you can buy it on their web site - www.macleans.ca - follow the link to "Canadian Universities 2002".
As someonelse stated Halifax is an easy connection from Toronto, Montreal, Newark and Boston. As far as living in Halifax she could live on campus at Dal it's in a great location and since Saint Mary's university is also in downtown there is a lot of student housing that is off campus. I am sure she would enjoy Dal and the city of Halifax itself.
Debbie: Dal is a good university, conveniently located in downtown Halifax, which, in turn, is a pretty nice city. I have heard good things about the marine bio. programme at Dal. Air Canada and its derivatives are about the only way to get to Halifax. You could fly to Boston, New York, or Toronto, and make easy connections from there. If you or your daughter are looking for more a small town college atmostphere, I would also recommend Acadia University in Wolfville Nova Scotia. It has an excellent reputation, although not so sure about marine biology- but worth a check. I am a graduate twice from that instituion, and thought it was the best post secondary experience of my life. Wolfville is located about 60 miles from Halifax in the beautiful Annapolis Valley.
