Suggestions for cottage rental in mountains Cape Breton in the fall

Going to Cape Breton this October and looking for suggestions for cottage rentals located in the mountains on the west side of island. Want to be in the midst of the fall colors. Near the National Park and Cabot Trail. Thanks.

Hello, catopp,
First of all, there are no "mountains", per se, in Cape Breton. There are "hilly areas" and "very high hill areas" and "highlands" but I would never describe those areas as "mountains". Along the Cabot Trail, there is Kelly's Mountain but again, I do not think of that as a true mountain....more of a gradual, uphill climb.
So, when you say that you want to rent a cottage "in the mountains " on the west side of Cape Breton Island, I am drawing a blank.

You probably already know this....Canadian Thanksgiving is Monday, October 14 this year so keep that in mind when booking accomodations.

For how long do you need this cottage? A week? Or, what? And, when in October do you plan to be on Cape Breton Island?

You are right.....I am referring to the highland hills! Just want to be located In the highlands of Cape Breton. We are planning to be there between October 2nd - Oct 12th, approximately. We would be looking for a cottage for a week during that time frame or perhaps split the time between one nearer the lower half of the Cabot Trail then another closer to the upper half, staying 3-4 days at each. Thank you.

cat,
You may find something on the Bras d'Or Lakes in/near Baddeck.(lower half of The Trail).

Keltic Lodge(on the upper side of the Cabot Trail) has cottages that you can rent. That may be a good option for you. Keltic Lodge is spectacularly located a peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean. You have to go up a hill to get there!! There are beautiful beaches and hiking trails in close proximity.

Oct 2-12 is the perfect time to be there for Fall colors and nice weather.

Where do you live? Are you driving or flying to Halifax and/or Sydney?

Thank you. We will be flying and coming from the US. We are looking to stay closer to the Highlands National Park area rather than Baddeck. We've been looking online for places between Pleasant Bay and Margaree where the highland hills are along the Cabot Trail. Just was asking if anyone could recommend a cottage along there and perhaps have even stayed there.

Are you flying to Halifax or Sydney?

If I hear of anything b/t Pleasant Bay and Margaree, I will let you know.

The Normaway Inn is nice.(Margaree). Google for more info, if interested.
