Our little family of (at that time) four - 2 adults, a 5 year old and 9 month old are hoping to travel this summer to visit family in New Brunswick.
We will be taking a total of two weeks to complete the whole trip and return home to Ontario - GTA.
Can anyone recommend a more interesting route than the 401? We enjoyed going through the U.S last time but that was many years ago and no children...we also just drove straight through as opposed to stopping over night. With two kids we would like to stop and are looking for suggestions as to where please?

Toronto to Kindston to the Ivy Lea Bridge to Waterdown to Lake Placid to somewhere on the Maine coast.
Last time I did this, I arrived at Portland ont he coast.
Up the highway along the coast, stopping for sure at Boothbay Harbor and Bar harbor, and other places as schedule permits.
Try to have at least three or four hours to visit Acadia National Park -- more time is better.
North to Lubec, Maine and then over a bridge to Campebello Island.
From there, by Ferry to Deer Island and then to the New Brunswick mainland.
Depending on where you spend your time in NB, leave either up the Northumberland Strait coast (Highway 11) or up the St. John River Valley on Highway 2.
To me, Highway 2 is the quick and boring route. Highway 11 is not all that often right by the water, and because of that, you might want to allow extra time to stop at some of the parks, small towns, etc.
REgardless, you get to a highway heading west along the south shore of the St. Lawrence.
To me, Quebec City is always worth a few hours.
AGain, depending on schedule, you might want to allow a day in Montreal.
Without stopping in Montreal, it is a loooong days drive from Quebec City back to Toronto.
The baby won't care about much, but the little kid will enjoy the ferry rides, and there are a few beaches (water too cold for swimming but a little walking in the ocean would be fun).

I think I was ok with the Canadian portion of the drive....I agree absolutely with Quebec City...we will stop there and maybe even Ottawa.
I will do lots of research on your suggestions through the States and N.B as that is where things get the grayest for me...which of these areas would you suggest lodging? Or will that become obvious as I do further research?? Thank you again for your help I really appreciate it - with a new baby on the way I will need this 10 months to plan this effectively!
