ST Johns

Jump to last reply

My wife, daughter and grandson will be flying into St Johns in August. We will be flying out of Deer Lake. Based upon other posts it seems that it will be more economical to rent a car in St Johns and return car to St Johns and fly over to Deer Lake. My thoughts are to spend 3 or 4 days exploring St Johns, Terra Nova, Twllingate and then returning car to St Johns. Then flying to Deer Lake and then exploring Gros Moran, etc. Will we be missing anything critical between Twillingate area and Deer Lake because we would not be driving?
Any suggestions or comments are welcome.

If you're only in St. Johns for four days, I'd suggest that you look closer to home than Twillingate. If, on the other hand, you decide to drive from St. Johns to Deer Lake, then Twillingate is a good stop. (Out of the way, though.) I don't think you'll miss that much between the Twillingate area and Deer Lake, though we found a great pottery shop and an iceberg at King's Point. It think that was the name of it. But the drive itself, which we did twice, was not that scenic or charming. We had a blast, loved every minute, but no, nothing critical.

Also, Terra Nova didn't strike me as a a place that someone would have to go, though we just visited the Visitor's Center there, and didn't go farther.

We spent three weeks in Newfoundland last summer and LOVED it. We said that when we go back, we will fly into St. John's and spend a week around there, with a side trip to the Bonavista Peninsula or to the little town of Southport so that we can stay in Harbour Couture again, which is an old general store converted to a rental--look it up! Charming, as is the village.

I've posted some other places about Bonavista, and how much I loved it, so you can search using my name if you're interested. Whales galore!

    You will LOVE Newfoundland!
