I am flying in to Spokane Washington, renting a car and am planning to visit Glacier Park, Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Lake Louise, Yoho and maybe Kootenay and Canmore. I have 14 days. Are my expectations too high? I love to hike and hope to book a night at the Abbott Pass hut in Yoho. I am also trying to get a night at the Granite Park Chalet in Glacier but have had no luck so far. Any suggestions on places to stay or hikes to do would be appreciated. Any suggestions on routing this trip would also be appreciated.
I land in Spokane at 11 pm.Where should I spend the first night? I was thinking of Coeur D'Alene.
What route should I take to Glacier? Is stopping at Missoula Montana out of the way and not worth it?
I would like to see Calgary, too. Would it be sensible to drive through Calgary and spend a night on the way to Banff?
Is Canmore worth a detour?
What suggestions do you have for the return trip? I don't want to spend a whole day driving back to Spokane.

As I suggested in the US forum: Take the Amtrak Empire Builder out of Spokane station at 1:30AM. The Spokane station opens at 9:30 PM.
The returning train leaves Whitefish at 8PM and gets into Spokane about 2AM. When I rode it on June 1-2 it arrived early (1:30AM).
I believe you can take a car you rent in Whitefish or Kalispell into Canada.
I don't see the point in driving to Missoula.
The nicest hotel I know of in Spokane is the Davenport.
Coeur D'Alene is quite pretty..we only did lunch there after spending time in banff and driving back to seattle. We also had a look at the carousel memorabilia in spokane.
we are going to banff again in february next year and will be overnighting in calgary...the drive to banff is meant to be quite nice as you approach the mountains..if you youtube it you will see a few people have recorded their drive
thats what im doing at the moment...looking at peoples recorded drives lol...its a great help if you want to know whether it appeals to you and if you see it enough times youre bound to get that deja vu feeling all the way ! lol
