Ski in Ski out condos at Whistler?
I am looking for a ski-in ski-out,3+ bedroom condo at Whistler. Seems like there are many different choices. Does anyone have a suggestion for preferred location or condo complex. I want to be close to slopes and nightlife. Would like nice amenities and open floor plan. Thank you.

we just booked a 3 bdrm at powderhorn for the last week of jan. we used the allura.com website. its easy to navigate, has maps, pictures of each condo, and you can book online. the search engine lets you plug in exactly what you're looking for (hot tub, ski in/out, # bdrms etc) shows pricing availability. some really beautiful units in all price ranges. good luck!

The best thing about Allura is that they serve only as an intermediary to connect property owners with folks seeking accommodations. Once the connection is made, you deal directly with the owner. This saves costs for everyone.
Most 3+ bedroom condos are not ski-in ski-out, as you will see if you look at the Allura Web site.
You have 3 choices - lodges along the Wizard or Magic Chairs, above Blackcomb Base (Pinnacle Ridge, Aspens, Marriott Residence, Painted Cliff, Woodrun); lodges in Whistler Village at the Gondola/Excalibur Base (Carleton, Westin, Pan Pacific, Delta Whistler); or at the base of Creekside (Legends, First Tracks).
We tend to stay above the Blackcomb base, as this seems to be the best value for a ski-in/out location (We are staying at the Aspens in February). The problem with these locations is that most savvy Whistler/Blackcomb skiers immediately head to high altitude and stay there, avoiding the crummy snow near the bottom. At the end of the day, they take the lift down instead of plowing through all the sloppy crud. If you take the lift down Blackcomb, then you will have to walk uphill to your condo. So you end up taking a lousy run at the end of the day just to get home. A compromise is to download to the Excalibur mid-station, then ski a short way to your condo. Also, it is a bit harder to get over to Whistler and back.
The Whistler base locations aren't true ski-in/out, as much as really short walk-in/out. They are great places to stay, particularly if you like the night life, and you can afford to pay top dollar. You also need to be able to handle a certain amount of noise and hustle-bustle.
The Creekside locations are really nice, as long as you don't mind being a bit isolated in terms of the big Whistler Village. Some of us consider this to be a big plus. I would always stay at Creekside, but my wife likes to be in walking distance to Whistler Village. Biggest disadvantage - its tough to get over to Blackcomb and back.

We stay at The Aspens (true ski in/ ski out) every season, and love it. It is situated about a 3 minute walk up from the Base of Blackcomb, one building up from the Chateau Whistler. Unless you want to dine at Creekside or go skating at the arena, you will not need to use your car if you stay at the Aspens. It is more quiet around Blackcomb at night, I don't know if that is a neg. or pos. for you. You will be a less than 10 minute walk to everywhere, tho. They have all the amenities and the suites are nicely furnished, at least the ones I have stayed in. We always ask for a particular suite directly on the slope. Hope this helps.

We (family of 5) stayed at Marriot and it was great! Ski in/out and not too far down the hill so that you don't get the crummy/fake snow to get home. Good breakfast, and good kitchens in unit too. We did get woken at 2am once by smoke/fire alarms because some idiot had burnt their popcorn in the microwave! Not great to be evacuated at that hour in your jamies!
Downside is it's quiet because you are far from the action. But you can easily get a shuttle bus to and from the action, or just walk up the ski run to home - that's what my boys did!

Never been to Whistler, so don't know the lay of the land at all. Are there two villages or just one in-between the two ski areas? For a family of 5 (kids are all over 19), where 1 of the 5 is not a skier and so would like to enjoy the town life, what condo choices would you recommend? Looking for something very nice and comfortable, but doesn't need to be the absolute top-of -the-line. Easy slope access, whether ski-in, ski-out or some other easy way to get on the hill is also a priority.

www.alluaradirect.com is definitely a good source for accomodation. You can also try www.resortquest.com, and I have a client who owns a ski in/out condo in the Woodrun which is very nice. you can find that at www.whistlerluxurycondo.com The absolute best location is in the Snowy Creek townhose project. It is a 2 minute walk to the village and is just steps to the ski out run. They were built in 1989 but most have had extensive renovations. if you can afford the price, that is where you should stay. There is one village and everything is in walking distance no matter where you stay, either in the village or on the benchlands. some of the benchland condos are further out , but there is a very good free bus shuttle service to the village and lifts.Just don't confuse Creekside with the village. Creekside is 5 kms from the village, and although is presently being redeveloped, it doesn't have the amenities that the village does. Enjoy your trip. Cheers, Al

If you have a non-skier, you should probably stay somewhere in the Whistler Village - many of the condos are a short walk (i.e. between 1 and 3 city blocks) to the gondola base.
Even though there are two mountains, ski access between them is pretty easy. At the Whistler Gondola base, you can also take the Excalibur Gondola, which takes you halfway up Blackcomb. At the end of a day on Blackcomb, you can ski back to the Whistler Base, or download the Excalibur (particularly in late Spring). From Blackcomb, you can ski off the top of the Magic or Wizard chairlifts and ski down to Whistler (or again, download the Excalibur).

For the absolute best location, nice condos at great rates, consider the Carlton Lodge - dead center behind the lifts. You can read about it and other accommodations in Whistler at http://www.scubamom.com/travels/whistler/

I'd also have a look at www.alohawhistler.com ... they've been in business since 1979. And they're good people.
www.alpinewhistler.com also offers accommodations in Taluswood Whistler which offers mostly ski-in ski-out condos on Whistler Mountain.k

Again, families, couples and even singles should consider staying at THE ASPENS.
It is a wonderful ski in/ski out complex which has been updated with a new large heated pool and 3 hot tubs, all overlooking the slopes. It has a ski valet service, ski rental shop, a coffee kiosk in the lobby and a gathering room with a huge LCD TV for guests.
The 1 or 2 br. suites are individually owned, most have been renovated, many of them can be seen on www.alluradirect.com or www.blackcombpeaks.com.
We try to stay in unit 209, when it is available. It is a 1br at the end of the building overlooking the Wizard run, ski school and valley. It is really cozy, with luxury mountain decor and is very well appointed.
We like being on Blackcomb Mountain because you can easily walk to everywhere, there are great retaurants at the base and the big reason is it is quiet at night.

Yeah, I agree about staying above the Blackcomb Base, and The Aspens. We also have stayed at The Woodrun and Greystone Lodge, which are both adjacent to The Aspens; they are smaller, quieter still, and generally a little less expensive.
