Road trip to Maritimes in July

We are travelling by car from Toronto to the Maritimes in mid-July 2 aduls, a teenager and a small dog. Basically 15 days available in total. I'm planning the trip now to go through NB over bridge to PEI for 5 days then ferry from Woods Island over to NS and back via ferry from Digby to Saint John NB and head for home
We are doing KOA in PEI and possibly around Halifax but in cabins as we don't tent. Also have to try to find pet friendly motels or doggy daycares along the way. I have a walking disability so trying to limit time in car each day. Would travelling the Lighthouse route in NS make sense for this trip to get in whale watching and lots of the Maritime experience?
