I will be visiting Quebec city the week of July 23rd with my 13 year old grand daughter. Would appreciate any ideas re things to see and do as well as info re inexpensive restaurants that a teen would like.

Here are a few ideas:
Changing of the guard at the Citadelle
Watching all the street entertainers
Going up into the observatory just outside the old city
Take a ferry ride
Ride the funicular
watch the artists at work in the little alleyway of artwork
Visit the Museum of Civilization (good rainy day activity)
Visit Montmorency Falls
Visit the zoo just outside the city
There are lots of very European feeling outdoor cafes, creperies, and pizza places that would appeal to any teen.

I think that Quebec City is unique enough to really open the eyes of a 13yo girl.
In some spots you may be challenged if not able to speak French, but help and resolution are never too far away in those cases.
Q.C. is old, and some of the streets downtown are these marvelous little alley-ways suitable for browsing and shopping. Then of course there is the old, walled-off city up on the hill, along with the impressive views of the river below.
The city is not so big as to overwhelm, and yet large enough to seem constantly interesting. Don't be afraid to just play it all by ear when you arrive.
Have fun!
