Quebec City hotel near VIA Rail station
I'm taking the train from Montreal arriving in the evening. Does anyone know of any hotels within walking distance to the VIA Rail station in Quebec city? Thank you.

Hi takeaway7,
Anywhere in the old city (Vieux Quebec) will be walkable from the VIA Rail station, where most auberges, hotels and B&Bs are located. The part of Quebec City geared toward visitors is quite walkable.
B&B A La Decouverte appears to be the closest, but honestly I'd just pick one of the hotels in the cluster of many somewhere inside (or not far from) the triangle formed by the train station, the Parliament and the Museum of Civilization that appeals to you most. (See map in link below.)

The station is on the edge of the harbour, an area geared to marine shipping and a little bit isolated. It's true that Quebec City is fairly compact for an energetic walker, but the walled sector is atop the famous cliffs, requiring a fairly stiff uphill trudge.

*requiring a fairly stiff uphill trudge.*
One can avoid the uphill trudge by taking l'Ascenseur du Faubourg (an elevator), although it only operates until 10pm Thurs-Sat, 7 pm Sun-Weds, so may be too late for you to use it when your train arrives.

While it's true that it's on the edge of the harbour, I didn't think the train station is particularly isolated, pretty central as far as train stations go in my experience, you look across the street and you already see some history-rich, charming parts of the Basse Ville. If you're in reasonably good physical shape and like to hike, you can be in the Haute Ville within 10-15 minutes walking.
PS If you had safety concerns; of note, I always felt comfortable walking in Quebec City even at that hour. Not true every year, but how many cities can boast having zero murders in a given calendar year in the 21st century? http://www.canada.com/montrealgazett...0-7373d98e0e88
PPS I've seen many train stations in North America and I can't think of one that has a prettier exterior. Be sure to take a picture as you exit!
