Private Taxi Tours in Halifax
My wife and I are taking a cruise tour with a stop in Halifax. The cruise line offers several tour options when we stop in Halifax. We have also heard of people taking taxi tours that will tailor the tour to the individual's wants and needs. I know we can also rent a car and do a tour ourselves. That is not an option for us. Please make comments about the taxi tour possibility -- if it's better than the cruise line tour. Also make suggestions of a company that does this and generally how much does it cost. Thanks.

I want to see Lunenburg, Peggy's Cove and Halifax..in one day? Car rental is $58 for the day...tours are way beyond that. I'm sure a couple or two would want to ride with me. Or is there a van tour or taxi tour to cover the same ground.
Want to do a similar thing in the Sydney, Marconi Trail area.
And the same on PEI. All ideas accepted.

For $58 plus a GPS (or bring your own), a pretty good deal. Halifax downtown core is walkable, not sure what you specifically want to see there, but from the cruise ship, you can certainly walk the waterfront, Citadel Hill, Spring Garden Road, Public Gardens. You would need at least a full afternoon. If heading to Lunenburg/Peggy's Cove - that is a full day as well. You want to take the old highway one way in order to enjoy the sights. The Trans Canada in that direction isn't divided, so can be slow, especially if an accident occurs.
I absolutely agree about Sydney. There isn't much there. If you want a nice drive, head towards Rita MacNeil's tea room. Louisbourg is worthy of a day if you like old forts.

might want to ask on cruisecritic.com. if you could get a recommendation of a knowledgable LOCAL, who could give you a tour around and maybe give you some information on history, etc, that would be the way to go. you could also contact the taxi companies directly and ask them...they might have a few drivers who like doing this.
