This seemed like a good idea at first, but we only have five days (flying into Portland Saturday night late, need to be in upstate NY Friday morning) so we will be driving to Nova Scotia on Sunday, and leaving Thursday--that is three days!
Any recommendations? I get skip PEI, would we have time to see Cape Breton and actually enjoy it?

I think that's way too far...

Portland to Baddeck is 650 miles, 10 hours, no stops. We spent a week in NS starting from the ferry landing in Yarmouth. Felt like that was too much time in the car.

Wow! I got tired just reading your post. It sounds like a lot of hours in the car, with minimal to no breaks for a bit of sightseeing.

You are right, and thank you. Last thing I want to do is spend my vacation driving around in a rental car!
Now I just have to come up with an alternate plan!

have you been to boston and martha's vineyard. that would be on the way to or from new york. much more reasonable considering your time. i spent 2 1/2 weeks in nova scotia and wish i had had a few more days.
