Ottawa...Lodging and Canal Questions

May be in Ottawa next week for 2 days. From previous posts, it looks as though Cooper St is a nice, central location for a hotel, within walking distance of many sites...appreciate any thoughts on that, or any other location suggestions. Would like to stay $150 and under for lodging.
Also, is is possible to bike along the rideau canal....if so, do they have bicycle rentals available. Thanks!

Cooper Street is a good choice. It's a relatively quiet street right downtown, close to the main sights and also close to many restaurants and bars on nearby Elgin Street.

I'd recommend the Cartier Suites Hotel, the Holiday Inn and the Embassy, in that order.

It is certainly possible to bike along the Rideau Canal (both sides) as far as Mooney's Bay. You can also bike along both sides of the Ottawa River for many km in each direction. All in all there are hundreds of km of bike paths and routes in the National Capital Region. You can rent bikes right downtown near Confederation Square.

Here's some information on biking in the Ottawa region

I stay at the holiday inn on Cooper everytime I am in Ottawa on business. I am here right now actually!

You can get cheaper rates online with advanced purchase but you cannot cancel. This week it was $40 cheaper a night than the going rate (still high season in Ottawa).

This hotel is great and only about a 10 minute walk to the Byward market, the canal and bike trails are right next to it and Elgin and Bank streets are great to wander around on.

Enjoy your time.

I'd check for specials at the Chateau Laurier. Surprisingly for such a grand hotel, you may find something in your price range. It's ideally situated at the center of activity. An adjacent stairway leads to the bike rentals. Here's more about our recent experiences:
