Nova Scotia - October

My wife and I are planning to come to Canada from the UK on October 13 for 8 days. A short trip to visit our daughter for a day or so, who is studying in Canada (Sackville) from September. Unfortunately due to other commitments our dates are fixed,. We are flying direct to Halifax.

We were planning to hire an RV, but I am concerned we are too late in the season and the campsites would be closed. I would appreciate any guidance on this or whether our plans are still viable, or whether we should change to car hire / hotels?

Thanks

Will your daughter eventually be able to get around the area to see many of the sights?

IF I understand clearly that you have 8 days of freedom for a trip of your own design, I think maybe you should base yourselves in/near your daughter's locale, and make some day trips with her in tow (if possible).

Perhaps an overnight on PEI (Charlottetown) would be a start... and then a day trip to Hopewell Cape and perhaps Fundy National Park...

An overnight trip to Halifax is (obviously an idea) and same is true of Saint John, and perhaps Miramichi to the north.

Yes, in a perfect world where you didn't have higher priorities in the area, one would target Cape Breton... but nothing says you have to do that.

Is the daughter eager for your visit???

Her location is sorta remote, BUT it is central to a lot of ideas in all directions (Fredericton is yet another idea for a day trip).

Find out what, if anything, would enhance your daughter's experience, and then do that!

Beyond that, we need more clarity about what YOU have in mind for where you want to go during the mentioned 8 days.

(I will accept the subject headings of NS and NB as implying that you intend to stay in that general corner of Canada)

(and as you're flying into Halifax, I guess you don't need my earlier brilliance of a day-trip there - unLESS the daughter doesn't get that opportunity otherwise)

In New Brunswick call 1-800-561-0123 and Nova Scotia call 1-800-565-0000 for information about camp grounds. There are also websites that may help; i.e., http://www.campingnovascotia.com/contact-coans/ or https://www.tourismnewbrunswick.ca/S...rchPosition=12

I am sorry I cannot give you any personal information on camp grounds.

Thank you for your help.

I have looked at camp sites and my conclusion is that they are closing down for the winter that week. For that reason, we have decided to hire a car and book accommodation ahead.

Our daughter is studying for 9 months so will be able to see the sights at some point during her studies, so we will plan to 'do' a couple of days local to her, and then venture out more widely.

Many thanks for the suggestions on where we should go. I will post again once we have an itinery sorted / completed the trip!
