Northern Vermont to Sault Ste Marie via Trans-Canada Highway

Jump to last reply

We're driving west to Sault Ste Marie and taking the northern route this year, which we haven't done in many many years.
Looking for suggestions for a place to break the trip-an interesting town, hotel, dinner.
When we drove this route 15 or more years ago there was very little in the way of food along the way. Is this still true?
Looking to avoid chain restaurants.
North Bay looks to be a mid point, but I'd love to hear of any interesting towns along the route--perhaps a non-chain Inn, or an interesting small town? Didn't find much in travel guides.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
