Niagara Falls - June 24-27

Hello, we will drive from Ottawa to Niagara Falls for a weekend trip June 24-27. I have never been to Niagara Falls, we plan on camping any good ones? We were thinking the one that is part of marineland? As far as activities, we were thinking of either six flags or marineland?? any suggestions or tips? We are a couple in early 20's. As far as the drive from Ottawa do you suggest going by Toronto, or going throught the states? I heard that maid of the mist was a must, do you know the price and where I get the tickets? Any good markets or outlet malls?

riverside campground sounds nice. it's about 20 minutes from the falls so away from the crowds.
or in town, the koa on lundy lane gets good reviews if you are rving.

Maid of the Mist is in the $10 dollar range; you get the tickets at the street level entrance to the stairs/elevators dow to river level. It is literally an awesome experience

My tips for what it is worth. See the falls from every angle. In other words do not leave and later have regrets that you did not adequately explore them. Usually happens because someone says "Oh you went there, did you do such and such?" "No, we did know about such and such." Do a good job of event research before hand. I think the Butterfly conservatory is way high on the scale of better have a good reason for not going to it. My personal opinion is all the marine land type artificial stuff is good only if it is the only real attraction in town and is easy for me to reject. One thing that almost but not quite got me to go in Niagara was the optional oportunity to pet/touch the marine mammals. That is rather unique check into that. I understand nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake is universally considered a pleasant must see attraction in itself for lunch etc. There is an old time apothicary there also. If you are into goofy wierd stuff just because - try the flying saucer restaraunt at http://fallscasino.com/saucer/. Here is something I almost pulled the trigger on but got talked out of it by the guys at work. To stay at the most over the top honeymoon hotel I could get just for the experience of it. Really wild set ups are there to behold. I consider it an off the beaten track attraction of sorts. Sanitary concerns and posible video issues with 2 kids scared me off though. But if I were two 20 year olds I might have pulled the trigger on that one. If sanitary issues were percieved when I got there I'd simply split. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply!! How long of a drive is it from the falls to niagara on the lake? I heard it is also a nice place to drive around and check out really nice houses...is there a particular street/subdivision, I should check out? We might go there for lunch or supper and a walk around town, any recommandations for lunch or dinner? not too expensive maybe around the 20-30 each max? What about wineries, do you see them on the way to niagara on the lake? Can you just stop by at any of them to sample and purchase? Can anyone recommand one in particular? Any websites? Also, any particular events from June 24-27??

So far ou ittinerary will be:

Get to niagara around 4-5, set up the tent at the marineland campground, go talk a stroll downtown to see the falls and maybe the casino later in the night. See the falls at night, is there fireworks on fridays?

Saturday morning, head for either six flags or marineland, stay there till about late afternoon. Evening?? not sure suggestions?

Sunday morning, go see the falls, do maids of the mists, head out to niagara on the lake for the afternoon.

evening??

head back to ottawa monday morning
