As many of you know, our 2nd annual Toronto GTG will take place on Sat, August 9.
There are many on Moolyn's list who have not responded.
Those of you that will be attending, please either let Moolyn know, or reply to this post.
I'm hoping dear Katie will be kind enough to provide us with goodies, and I need a head count.
Katie if you are reading this, how about a weekend away in Toronto!!

I will be coming with my DH.
I'll be there.
Katie, it would be great if you could attend.
Anselm
count us in (me and SO) -- yippee!
ttt
Goddess, I agree...YIPPEE !!
I believe that she's aware that Jana and I are planning to be there.
BAK
I'm planning to be there. (despite the 27% fuel surcharge on the ferry from NL -- I swear, by the time I retire I won't be able to afford to leave home-- sigh)
Is $97 at the Delta Chelsea a good deal for a dt hotel?
yes
Then, for other "financially challenged" participants, here's where I found the deal:
http://tinyurl.com/4z32op
As previously indicated, my spouse and I will attend.
We will stay at the Hilton -- that $109 rate is very favourable.
kodi
I will be there too. I agree the $109 rate at the Hilton was too good to pass up. Nicely located too!
Nfldbeothuk - that is an excellent rate at the Delta Chelsea. Good work! I think we are just seeing the start of the impact of fuel surcharges.
I will be there as previously advised.
M.
BAK, you and Jana weren't on the list yet so good to hear from you.
ireccomend and anyone else just learning about the Second Annual Toronto GTG, please contact me to get on the official emailing list. moolyn@hotmail.com
Kodi: You know this, but, for the record, DH and I will be there!
Great! Looks like it will be another wonderful evening.
Is the GTG for lunch or dinner?
SallyCanuck, I was planning to be on a plane to Toronto around lunch time, so I sure hope it is dinner!
kodi or moolyn, I think there were a couple of posts about the exact starting time, but did we ever settle on when we're all meeting?
Anselm
Dinner is fine - naturally, in my busy social life (NOT!) there is something else going on that night. But the GTG comes first.
Uh oh. It has to be dinner for me. I'm going to see either Jersey Boys or Avenue Q that afternoon (can't remember which one -- both are in August).
Hot House, right?
The evening of Saturday, August 9th is correct. I sent out an email last week to people on our list who haven't confirmed yet as I plan to make a tentative booking at the Hot House Cafe this week. It will likely be 6:00 or 6:30, the same as last time. I'll notify the group when arrangements are finalized.
Thanks, moolyn, for doing all of this! I'm really looking forward to it.
Thanks, moolyn.
AA
A big thank you Moolyn!
Yes, I do believe we had decided that 6 or 6:30, the same as last year, would be a good time.
It was good to see you on Saturday, Moolyn!!!
Goodies for sure will be heading your way... I'm actually heading home to see my family that weekend so I'll be unable to make it. Would have liked to as I've never managed to visit Toronto before...but... I'm sure this year will be even better than last. Hope many can make it.
Katie,
Thats unfortunate that you won't be able to make it. It would have been nice to meet you.
Just got back from a terrific 4 days in NYC. Posting a trip report on the US board soon.
M.
I know... would have liked to too as I still have yet to attend a GTG. Toronto seemed like it would be a good first time. Hope you have several first-timers there.
It's certainly my first time. We are planning to spend the weekend in SW Ontario.
Time away from our cottage in Renfrew County is painful but worth it, I figure.
We will go to Stratford either Friday nt or Sunday nt to stay with old friends -- Another first: Grew up in Ontario and I have never been to Stratford!
Preceding weekend we have a cottage-and-Ottawa-based family GTG: Ottawa, Edmonton, Guelph, NYC, Halifax and Washington DC folks all converging.
Busy times, following my recent retirement.
Must head back upstairs now, to polish silver for tomorrow night's dinner party for 12....
The Toronto GTG is teatured in the latest Fodor.com newsletter:
http://www.fodors.com/newsletter/?ref=news&name=080710newsletter
Hi moolyn! Glad you saw that... I hope to do a better job of getting the word out about the GTGs. I'd like to add a calendar here... I know Fodor's does not sponsor the events and their homegrown, but I want to give members more of a space to mention the GTGs they're planning--it's always too bad when someone posts "I wish I had known about this GTG, etc."
Katie, thanks for doing this to help get the word out. I'm so sorry that you won't be able to join us this year as the Toronto GTG last year was truly memorable. We would all love to meet you in person. Maybe next year!
Everyone, we already have a tentative booking for Saturday, August 9th at the Hot House Cafe for 6:00 and I'll send additional information next week by email to everyone who has notified us here, or by emailing me, that they are attending.
We can always add extra names if people find out closer to the date that they can make it but please be sure to contact me in advance so I can inform the restaurant of the final number and make name tags.
Hi all,

I'm more of a lurker here than a poster but the gtg sounds like fun. Where on the boards do you guys post regularly, that you all know each other?
Thanks
Curlgirl, welcome.
We'd love it if you would come to the GTG.
To answer your question, we didn't all know each other at all til we had our first GTG last year.
What board we visit really depends on where we like to visit. Many members are on the Europe board. SOme are on the US board. So it's really a mixture. I think most of us regularly check the Canada board to see what is going on and to see if we can help anyone.
But Speaking for myself, I didn't really know anyone before last yea'rs GTG.
Some of the names I had seen and to be honest some I didn't recognize at all.
But the GTG changed all that.
SO please do let us know if you decide to come. If travel interests you, I promise you will have a good time.
Oh oh.
My 100-year old father broke his arm a week ago in an incident involving a shopping cart (and possibly some chicken), so I have to fly to Toronto and drive to Lake Simcoe on August 1 to take him to a fracture clinic in Newmarket. Then I have to go back up on August 17th to look after him while his host is on vacation.
These will be back-to-back Halifax-Toronto trips that will fall on either side of the GTG on the 9th, so I am gradually reconciling myself to not being able to attend the GTG.
Sigh. But parents come first.
We will be having a 2009 GTG, right? Put me down for that.
Anselm, with regret
Oh AA, I was so looking forward to meeting you!
Can you build a Toronto holiday in-between those two dates? I'm so sorry to hear about your dad (but you do have to admit it sounds like the beginning of a good joke, right?)
Bring your dad to the GTG?
Thanks, goddesstogo. I had been looking forward to meeting you, too, along with all the other new participants this year.
I'm smiling about the thought of bringing my dad to the GTG. He'd talk the ear off off anyone who would listen (railroad stories--I've heard every one of them a dozen times). It would all be rather one-sided, though, because he'd forget to turn up his hearing aid. Then he'd want to have a nap.
I'm still struggling to reconcile myself to not attending, but Moolyn, if you read this, please take my name off the list.
AA
Anselm, I'm so sorry to hear about your father's injury. I hope he's doing ok. What a shame.
But I'm also very sorry to hear that you won't be able to make it to the GTG. You'll be missed.
Tell your dad his timing was just a little off!
Yes, of course, we'll have a 2009 GTG. We're on a roll now! Can't stop a good thing.
Good luck with your dad.
Anselm, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad's injury and hope you will follow goddesstogo's suggestion and try and build a Toronto holiday between those two dates.
Your dad would be most welcome at the GTG. The rest of us haven't heard all of his stories before!
Hi, Just found out about this! My wife Dhun and I would really like to come. Are we too late to get on the list?
We live here in Toronto and use the forums all the time to help us plan our travels - last year Thailand, Cambodia and Laos and this year India.
Jonathan
Jon, you aren't too late and we'd love to have you and your wife join us on August 9th. We have a tentative booking at the Hot House Cafe but can easily modify our number. Contact me to get on the official list: moolyn@hotmail.com
Anselm: Bummer about the broken arm but lucky you, to have a father alive at 100 years of age! Neither of my parents lived past mid-70s.
Of course I quarreled with them mightily when young (and was frustrated because they always agreed about EVERYTHING). But I miss them now.
Your presence was a major inducement for me to make a mid-summer trip to The Infernal Wen, AKA Toronto
(OK, I know that name was coined for London, England in the 19th C.)
But I guess we'll have to get by without you. Unless you can be prevailed upon to have an early- August Ontario holiday......
Hi Anselm,
I too am sorry to hear of your father's injury, and especially that we will not enjoy the pleasure of your company at the GTG this year. But your priorities are in the right place and I hope that he recovers quickly and maintains his spirit. I was lucky to enjoy both my parents for as long as I could though both lived only until their early 70s.
It was wonderful meeting you last year and to have continued corresponding since.
I have an idea and I'll PM you.
Cheers,
M
Anselm, I'm sorry you won't be there, because I was so looking forward to meeting the person who wrote those marvellous reports on northern France. However, if accidents happened at convenient times they would be accidents. But all is not lost-- if you inherit your father's genes, maybe you'll be able to attend the GTG in 2028!
I'm new to using Fodor's 'travel talk', so could some tell me what GTG is?? Thanks
It's Get ToGether, Bgale, and I hope you can come to it.
)
(Sometimes it's me, GoddessToGo!
Anselm
I would like to add my best wishes to your father - and I, too, am sorry if we won't have the chance to meet on the 9th. I know you will make it if you possibly can.
goddesstogo, thanks for the explanation. Sounds like a great time. The next best thing to actually traveling is to share travel tales with others who have the "bug." Enjoy everyone!
Thanks to all for your best wishes for my dad. Thanks, too, to moolyn and Mathieu for the e-mails and suggestions!
I couldn't quite get over how disappointed I was in my decision not to attend the GTG, so after several days of soul-searching and discussion, it will be three trips to Toronto in August, including the GTG on the 9th.
Now I'm smiling and looking forward to seeing everyone!!
AA
That's so great, AA! I'm so happy to hear it!
WOO-HOO!! AA that is really great news.
YOU are definately a confirmed Fodorite!!
Great, just great!
Anselm, I was away from e-mail and internet for a few days (okay admit I took a quick peak at the library) so came into today wanting to ask you how I'd get the the book on Normandy to you - but see you're now going to be at the GTG.
Hi Moolyn, Kodi et al - just saw this new post - my husband Richard and I will be there - will email Moolyn.
Liz
Great Liz. I'll look forward to seeing you.
Anselm
I am pleased you are able to attend. I look forward to meeting you and everyone else.
Elizabeth S: so pleased you are able to come...I have thought about you in the intervening time and will bring greetings from mutual friends when we see you on the 9th.
Can I get an updated head count?

Great that there's so many attending!
Ok Katie, I'll check with Moolyn and get back to you..
Re: >Can I get an updated head count?<
As reported earlier and thus this is an update, not a "new" report, Jana and I are a yes.
BAK
We (2) will be there.
Katie, I've just emailed you... hope you got it...
This is the one you want to top!
I topped the report of last year's event because there are photos which people who weren't there might like to see to help recognize some of the people they will meet on August 9th.
Unfortunately, the title of the report didn't include 2007 so it may be confusing. It's probably best to let it sink. You can use this link to see the photos when it does: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect.jsp?fid=29&tid=35065763
Please count us in (2) as well.
Marilyn, I did notify you last week when I received the reminder.
Looking forward to meeting everyone.
Cheers !
ttt
yahoo, less than a week to go!!!! Looking forward to seeing everyone.
Too lazy to read the whole thread - what time are we meeting?
Danny Marks is playing at a music festival in Colonel Smith park in faraway Etobicoke - on the grounds of the former Lakeshore Psych Hospital...wondering if I can listen and make it to Hot House.
Sally, we're meeting at the Hot House Cafe at 6:00 on August 9th.
It's still not too late to join the festivities if you are a new member of Fodors or if you have missed this thread up until now. But you might miss out on the swag Katie sent becasue kodi had to submit our number a while ago and we have already surpassed it. 31 people have confirmed attendance to date!
The restaurant can accomodate more people but needs to know ahead of time so please contact me to get on the official guest list.
moolyn@hotmail.com
6pm Saturday, right?
6:00pm on Saturday, August 9th, 2008 at the Hot House Cafe, corner of Church and Front Streets in beautiful, downtown Toronto. Park under 35 Church Street for a flat rate of $5. www.hothousecafe.com
Can't believe its already here, after all these months.
I even remember entering it in my Microsoft calender in the late Spring thinking its still so far away...
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.
Did we actually settle on a $25 per head menu including coffee, tax and tip?
That seemed to be the plan a million messages ago, but I can't remember the conclusion.
Regardless, Jana and I have our fingers crossed the rain will stop -- we were trapped in our driveway for 20 minutes a while ago, unable to get from car to door.
But it has eased off.
See you all in a couple of hours.
BAK
Well, I guess I must be the first one home! Unfortunately, we couldn't accept Moolyn's generous offer of drinks up at her place since we still have plently to do for company coming tomorrow but what a GREAT evening this was!
Kodi was saying that she thinks this GTG is a Fodor's record and I think so too. There were more than 30 people I think, from as close as upstairs from the restaurant and as far as Newfoundland. The Hot House was a great choice; we had our own room and the service was excellent, including our very dedicated waiter who took gazillions of group pictures of us.
I'll let the others tell more, but I just wanted to thank Moolyn, Lee and Lee for all their great planning and the work they put into this evening. I was thanked as a host as well, but I really did none of the work. That said, Mathieu, my 'thank you' chocolates didn't make it north of College Street!
I can't wait to see the pictures -- thanks again everyone, and it was so good to meet you all.
And, Katie, thanks for the gifts and the very kind letter. Come visit us here sometime soon!
your goddesstogo (and god)
Another year and another memorable Toronto GTG! Anselm, Robjame and his wife Sandy arrived at the Hot House early so I had a chance to catch up with their news before everyone arrived.
Nfldbeothuk won a prize for coming the furthest for the evening - Newfoundland. She nudged out Raquel and Pat from Winnipeg and Anselm from Halifax. She was given first choice of a selection of new guides sent by Fodors. Everyone was given a ticket to put on their favourite remaining book and four more Fodor guides went home with other members. Orange Fodor tote bags were available for everyone.
It was great to see people I met last year and to meet new members. Double the number of last year showed up, 31 people in total. After the last guest left for home just a few minutes ago my husband commented on what a nice group of people I hang out with online.
Many thanks to Mathieu and ElizabethS and JonW for the kind words and sweet gifts they brought for the organizers! See you all next year.
I am still too pumped up to go to bed.
I had a wonderful time!! It was so good to see everyone again and to meet new Fodorites.
I think I can safely say that a good time was had by all.
Thanks to all of you for making the evening such a success.
There was constant chatter at the restaurant and also at Moolyn's aferwards. I can't think of any other group of people that have so much to say to each other, and that seem to 'know' each other so well.
Just another benefit of the love of travel.
I think my friends think I'm crazy when I talk about my Fodor friends, but they don't know what a great bunch we are!!
Thank you Moolyn for your work and your hospitality.
See everyone next year if not sooner.
Just got home myself and am still basking in the afterglow of a truly wonderful evening. As expected, nice as FODORITES are online, they are even nicer in person.
It was such a pleasure reaquainting with so many of you from the first Toronto GTG last year - Moolyn, Kodi, LJ, Anselm, MichelP, ElizabethS, BAK and J, RobJam and S, and to further build our friendships, while welcoming so many more new to the gathering this year who came from far and wide.
Very happy to have met TeacherCanada, who is every bit as congenial as his recent trip report imparts, Irecommend and B who are soon leaving for an African safari, Goddesstogo who really is a goddess, JonW and D soon traveling to India, and many others.
Such congeniality and camaraderie amongst a group of over 30 people brought together by a love of travel, travel writing and apparently, international food is surely unique and special. And I'm sure that our combined adventures could make for a hard to put down (and hilarious) bestseller !
Thankyou Moolyn, Kodi, LJ and chief... MC ? Goddess, for organising a terrific evening.
All credit for the truffles go to ElizabethS whose kind idea it was.
Thanks Katie for the gifts and message and Moolyn and R for hosting everyone for coffee afterwards.
Looking forward to hearing about and reading everyone's next adventures.
And of course, to meeting up again.
M.
LoveItaly and cmcfong -- thank you for your lovely greetings which kodi dutifully delivered! I hope the time will come soon when I can meet you both. And LI? You can be a Canadian-American any ol' time you want -- we'll confer honourary citizenship on you at a GTG!
Many thanks to all who organized last night's Toronto GTG, it was excellent. Great location, tasty food, and outstanding company. What a pleasure it was to meet the faces behind the screen names. Plus, now I have plenty of information for when I plan my next trip.
Happy travels!
I knew all of you would have a wonderful and fun evening, how could you not, you are all such fun and nice people.
Oh goddesstogo, I so want to travel to your eastcoast area. I have been in Canada a lot but just BC. I love your country and your people.
My paternal grandfather was born and raised in Canada as were his mother and father (Scots). I found a wonderful website some years ago and consequently have the information where my greatgrandparents are buried but sadly I didn't record the website and have never been able to find it again. They are buried in Lower Cape Albert, NB. My greatgrandparents were born in 1828 and 1838. I don't know if there respective parents were born in your country or in Scotland.
I will get to see dear Kodi in September and somehow goddesstogo I truly feel you and I will be able to meet in person. Kodi has my email so if you like obtain it from her as I would love to hear from you!
Best regards to all of you along with wishes that you have many more GTG's.
Hi all!
Just arrived home and wanted to thank you for organizing such a successful event. It was so much fun. We werent sure what to expect, but it was the best!.
It was so nice to meet such a warm and wonderful group of like minded travel lovers. Put our names down for next year!
And I cant wait to see pics as I only took one or two.
And thanks Katie for the bags and books. We won the African Safari book and as we are leaving in six weeks it will come in most handy!
Marilyn #2 & Bill
First, about New Brunswick.
RE>Lower Cape Albert, NB<
Perhaps using a more accurate name might help research. It is Lower Cape, and it in in Albert County. That splitting of the community name from the county name might help seaarch engines.
In New Brunswick there's more reference to the county, as in "Let's drive down to Albert County" than I've seen elsewhere in Canada, except in realtion to Prince Edward County, in Ontario.
Lower Cape is next door to fame; when you see those famouse flower-pot like earth sculptures fromed by the tides at Hopewell, New Brunswick... well, Lower Cape is just behind the photogapher, if he is facing downriver.
Those are sure old great grandparents -- they probably took boats on the river, leaving and arriving at wharfs built my greatgrandfather, and travelled over bridges he built. He was born in 1844 in Ireland, and moved to Albert County sometime later, and raised my grandmother and her two sisters mostly in Hopewell Hill.
Albert County, for the curious is on the more or less east side of the Petticodiac River, from Moncton down to the Bay of Fundy and Fundy National Park.
ABOUT LAST NIGHT
Fine people and fine food, and a fine Fodor's tote bag.
Much of my time was spent learning about high school, 2008, on behalf of our son, who starts in a few weeks.
Excellent advice from several teachers, and the boy has already been working today on getting his brain into shape for the school year. Today's practise math question, in honor of last night, related to how much the gas costs to go to Montreal with his mother. And we've looked up Gambo on the Newfoundland map, and held a geographiy-based discussion of driving from Gambo to Toronto.
So, and educational night even for a kid who was not there.
BAK
BAK
My thanks to those who took the time and trouble to make last evening such a memorable experience. My thoughts duplicate others who have posted in the last few hours. A pleasure to meet each and everyone of you. Lovely to hear of your travel experiences. Thank you for the kind comments about the Eurotrip trip report. I was inspired by many of you and I return the compliment collectively to last night's group and the Fodor chat group for their inspiration.
Thank you Marilyn and Richard for hosting in the loft. It was a wonderful way to end the evening. By the way, a great location for supper. I hope to return to the Hot House in the near future.
Please put my name down for next year.
BAK not sure about your reference to Albert County but I remember as a kid I think going through the covered bridges there and having to scream to scare the ghosts away. Pretty sure that was Albert County. I too am a New Brunswick native with Irish immigrant relations.
Felt terribly guilty accepting thanks and chocolates for whatever small impact I had on planning...this is all the rest of the gang including Goddess who is a driving force, but esp. Kodi and Moolyn...you are both absolutely wonderful!
Now, this did not stop my enjoying either the 'thank yous' or the truffles! So, in turn, a BIG thank you to both Mathieu and Liz..
What a night! What a group!
What a great time was had by all on Saturday. It was really good to be able to put faces to the "names". Thanks to the organizers and especially to Moolyn for opening her home to a horde of Fodorites.
Moolyn suggested I ask robjame (thanks Bob)to post the pictures I took and hopefully you will all soon be able to see each other in "glorious technicolour"!
Dear BAK, it is late here in Northern California but I read your message to me and consequently went onto Google. BAK, I found the 1911 census which listed my greatgrandparents and a couple of my grandfather's brothers who were still living at home at that time plus evidently they had one boarder living with them.
I will have so much fun doing more research. I must go to bed now as I got so involved I didn't realize it is now almost 2:30 in the morning. But I wanted to thank you for your post with the informative information.
I will post more later as I discover more information. By the way, from family history my greatgrandfather evidently worked in the shipbuilding industry. Does that sound right or possible? Best regards and again many thanks.
Finally I am able to post a message -- I've been on the road since Sunday morning (Stratford, Guelph, then a mad dash across the Kawarthas to our cottage in Renfrew County, then home to Ottawa).
I'm so glad we made the trip. We made some new friends and were sorry we could not talk to more people. We were most impressed by the organization, as well as by the camaraderie of the Toronto contingent. Moolyn was especially gracious in opening her home to us strangers.
Unfortunately I ran out of energy early, as I had been up since 5:30 am. Normally I'm a bit more gregarious. I hope the Fodorites don't put me down as "that mousy bore" -- when I'm really a scintillating charmer.
Hope to see you all next time.....
Well poo. I couldn't make it because I've been sick as a dog (and to top it off I've had NO internet or telephone for almost a week despite the Bell tech guy coming by twice and did you know that if your phone line is wonky it can trip an automatic call to 911? I found that out last night when the cops came pounding on my door at one in the morning waking me up and giving me a serious heart attack) but finally tonight I have my wireless back so I can finally say... I'm sorry I missed it, it sounds like everyone had a great time and I can't wait to see the pictures
Regarding >By the way, from family history my greatgrandfather evidently worked in the shipbuilding industry. Does that sound right or possible? <
Highly likely.
My great grandfather (gradmother's side of the family) was a bridge builder and wharf builder in the Moncton area, and down to the Bay of Fundy. Lots of river-based transportation in the area, so it makes sense there were shipbuilders, too. This is an area of very high tides, which makes for good shipbuilding, too, because of the ease of working on boat hulls at low tide.
Lots of need for sishing boats at the Bay of Fundy, and ferry boats across the Petitcodiac River.
On my grandfather's side, I don't really know what his father did. My grandfather had one brother, who moved to San Francisco well before WWII, and became a conductor on the cable cars. When I was a little kid, I thought this must be a really cool job. Still think that, in fact. My grandfather was a teacher, newspaper reporter and then a lawyer and finally a judge, never moving from New Brunswick.
Oh Apres, you've really had a run of bad luck. I'm sorry you aren't feeling well, and sorry you missed the GTG.
Sheesh, no wonder you almost had a heart attack when the cops arrived. I would have too!!
I hope you are feeling better. ... and glad you are back on line.
Come on, guys, where are those photos? It sounds like you had a great time. So many of you are such fun participants in the forums, I sure would have loved to be part of the party.
Cmcfong, they are coming!!! "The committee" is busy editing all the photos, and selecting the best of the best... Hopefully it will be worth the wait!!!
Patience, my dear!!
Many apologies for not posting GTG photos sooner! I know you have all been anxious to see the faces of the Fodorites who attended the 2008 TO GTG as well as those of their spouses, SOs and friends, 31 in total. Lack of high speed internet connections for a few days has been the major holdup.
Your GTG committee was able to choose from the many photos available and ruthlessly delete the unflattering ones - of ourselves at least. We are all much more attractive in person, however, so be sure to attend the 2009 GTG and discover this for yourselves!

LOL, moolyn!! I certainly weigh less than that Anselm in the photographs.
Thanks to the kodi, goddestogo, LJ, and moolyn for organizing this. It was a delightful evening!
Anselm
Great pictures, everybody!

Finally a GTG photo-report without 100 photos of the food
loved seeing the photos and Wow! Two godesses and a god in one evening!!
Hey listen, that wasn't MY briliant idea!

I've always called him my SO on here. Now they've gone and called him god on his name tag and he's gotten a swelled head over it! Ever since the GTG, I've had to call him Your Excellency and dust his throne!
Dagnabbit!
sorry, Kodi, patience is not my long suit! The photos were great and well worth the wait. Thanks for sharing. Glad everyone had such a grand time.
I love all of the photos and it is great to be able to put faces to names. What an attractive and fun group..wish I could have been there.
Thanks for sharing your GTG with all of us!
Moolyn, you did a wonderful job!! Thank you so much.
JonW, Robjame and Moolyn, great photos.
Yes, Anselm I weigh less too !!
Seeing the photos brings back such good memories.
Loved the pictures; thanks for sharing! Looks like y'all had a fabulous time.
Hi moolyn,
thanks so much for posting the photos - as others have said, it's great to put faces to names [almost posted names to faces, LOL].
don't we all look normal - who'd have thought it!
regards, ann
The pics are great fun! Thanks again to the "committee" for organizing a great evening and to Marilyn and Richard for inviting us back to their place
Liz and Richard
Enjoyed the pictures! Glad you all had such a great turn out!
moolyn: They say the camera does not lie but I think it was truth-impaired that evening. True, I'm entering my golden years but do I really look that dissipated????
Oh well, everyone can't be photogenic. The others look great though -- lively, funny, energetic.
And thanks for the organizing and the posting!
If anyone wants to see the REAL me, however: Here I am in more flattering lighting (ie heavy shadow):

I'm new to this list -- can anyone tell me what a GTG is?
Re>I'm new to this list -- can anyone tell me what a GTG is?<
Happy to.
GTG is Get ToGether
In this case, a group of Toronto-based Fodor's contributers, enhanced by other Canadian contributors from Newfoundland, Manitoba, other parts of Ontario, etc.
ted: Cameras may not lie but the very features that make DSLRs excellent for scenery tend to magnify every nook and cranny on people’s faces. We did our best to eliminate all the less than flattering photos but I noticed some typos in names and a couple of people with closed eyes after we posted. Sorry about that. As I wrote before, we are all much more attractive in person!
BAK is correct but GTG could also mean Great Travellers Gathering as indeed it was.
No problem; it's probably good for my humility to see photos of myself.
It means God!Tedgale'sGorgeous!
TG, at the next GTG you have to show up in a bathing suit!
I must add my thanks to the organizers of a very enjoyable evening. This is ridiculously belated, but I didn't get back to NL (& my computer) until the 22nd, and spent last week getting ready for the upcoming school year.
It must be daunting to plan for people one has not met in person, but the plans worked perfectly, and moolyn's open-house afterwards made a perfect end to the evening.
I suppose my fading vanity will recover from the close-up at the beginning of moolyn's pictures...arrghh!
Our friend teacherCanada has started a thread about a 2009 Toronto GTG. I thought putting the link on this old thread would be a good way of alerting everyone who attended last year's event. Take a look here, and do post if you're up for a 2009 event:
