New Plan, NOTL then NF

This could work!
Arrive by train at Niagara Falls around 11 a.m. with just a small backpack.
Take a taxi immediately to NOTL, arriving by noon. Walk around and tour Fort George and maybe the history museum if time allows. No time for a meal, just a snack.
Taxi back to NF between 4 and 5 p.m., check into hotel if time allows, then head to the Falls action.
Maid of the Mist tours go until 7:45 p.m.
Behind the Falls is open until 10 p.m.
Maybe a late meal at Keg's steakhouse (I'm a vegetarian but a baked potato and sides look good!), or just enjoy our fallsview room.

What do you think?

Judy, I think there is a shuttle run by 5-0 Taxi b/t NF/NOTL. Google to get fares/schedules. Return shuttle fare per eprson is $18. Check to see if the departure times work for you.

I think the taxi fare from NF to NOTL is around $30. I know that the taxi fare is $33 from St. Catharines train station to NOTL w/ Central Taxi( 905-685-7343; 1-800-562-4749). Given that, you may want to consider getting off the GO Train in ST. Catharines insteadvof NF. Then go to NOTL, then on to NF from NOTL on the shuttle or another taxi when you are finished exploring NOTL.

Another idea: Rent a car in St. Catharines. Budget Car Rental: (905)684-2375.
It's only $46/day.
You can arrange for Budget to pick you up at the St. Catharines train station & drive you to their downtown location which is only a 2 minute ride from the St. Cathatines train station.
You can rent your car & head to NOTL (easy 15-20 minute drive...I will give you directions if you like).
Then you can roam around NOTL, drive to NF and drop your rental car in NF ( no drop charge to do this).
The more I think about it, the car rental option gives you the most flexibility and it is cost effective. You will not be tied into shuttle schedules & high taxi rates ( $33 plus tip each way).

What about the play in NOTL? They have afternoon shows!

I will think about your ideas--they're good ones. My latest plan was to catch the 5 p.m. shuttle from Ft. George, NOTL, back to NF. That saves at least $15. The 2 p.m. play is possible, too. Then no exploring the area. Wish I knew if it would be raining that day! If we go to a play I want to buy tickets in advance because they might sell out.

This plan is pretty weak... how about this???

Purchase online an Adventure Pass for $44.00 which includes attractions and peoplemover which covers 19 miles of your transportation...they run until 5 pm

Arrive in NF at 11am and walk the two blocks to the White water attraction... do the attraction, then get the people mover all day to complete your Falls attractions... then take peoplemover bus to incline railway to your hotel... check in... clean up and then head out to the evening at Notl... wander the Village, grab a bite at the Epicurian, a favorite casual spot for veggieheads, get your tickets and see the play...

Garyt, that's a great idea if I want to see a play. I'm not sure now that I do. I thought it might be pleasant to visit Fort George (my husband's name, and he's a history buff) and see NOTL before 5 p.m. There are so many options!

Is the Adventure Pass a good deal? I'll have to explore it. Hadn't planned on the White Water attraction. I'll check that out too. I'm spending more time on research than I will in the destination!

OceanBreeze and Garyt, I really appreciate your input. These are my current thoughts:
I explored the Adventure Pass and read reviews of the attractions. The purpose of our trip is to see Niagara Falls. That's what I want to focus on. If I didn't buy the pass, I wouldn't see all those attractions, and I'd miss a lot. Plan A is now (oh yes it could change!) to get the pass in advance and visit all those attractions. If at the end of the day we feel like going to NOTL, we can get a taxi and go there. But we'll have been up late at the theater the previous night (Billy Elliot in Toronto!) and I'm probably going to be tired. I'll have raced (dragon boats) in Nanaimo the previous weekend and still be recovering from that trip. I think that I'll have done enough for one day using the Adventure Pass. Thanks for the tip, Garyt!

Not skipping, just not planning around it. If after the Falls sightseeing we feel like going to NOTL, we can get a taxi and head over there. But our principle focus will be Niagara Falls. Our return flight Sunday is 7 p.m. from Toronto. I plan to take the 11:30 a.m. GoTrain to Toronto.
