Neighbourhoods recommendation in Vancouver, BC

I may relocate and start working in downtown Vancouver.
As a current Vancouver metropolitan resident, can you recommend neighbourhoods with reasonable housing (rent) prices containing:
• Easy access to the SkyTrain
• Access to other public transportation
• Low crime
• Nice to have:
o Access to fresh produce market(s)
o Access to a shopping-centre containing a hardware store and a supermarket.
o Bicycles lanes and other sport facilities
o Access to a public library

I would recommend Kitsilano area. Low crime, easy access downtown and easy access to the skytrain. Very nice neighborhood.

It would be helpful to define your rental budget - an interesting area that fits your criteria is lower Lonsdale in North Vancouver.

You will need to state your budget for rent. Vancouver is in the middle of a housing crisis and rent is very expensive here.
There are many nice neighbourhoods that fit your criteria.

Commercial Drive fits the bill.

Depends on your budget of course, but several areas come to mind. Olympic Village has the most available listings usually, the area around Granville and 12th Ave, lots of apartments, and the new complex at Marine Gateway, which has all the requirements you have listed I believe, but is at the south end of Cambie St. However, being on the Canada Line Skytrain means you can be in downtown Vancouver in about 20 min.

I wouldn't consider Kitsilano to be affordable.

For a feel of Vancouver should look at its matured alt news: The Georgia Straight https://www.straight.com/
Right now they have an article on the cost of housing https://www.straight.com/life/990346...where-do-we-go

Even before the current cost increase its been standard for years for people to share housing ... I lived in a shared house in Vancouver for years, where I met some of the people who have remained my best friends

In general, east of Cambie will be less expensive than west of Cambie.

In general, crime is not a major concern almost anywhere in Vancouver compared to areas in the US. But the area *very roughly* between Abbott St. on the west, Gore Ave on the east, Alexander St. on the north, and Union St. on the south is more sketchy.

Use Google Earth, especially its street view to get a feel for areas.

If you're interested in biking check out the city's bike map - there's almost nowhere in the city that isn't close to a good biking route

Almost every area in Vancouver will have access to your 4 last requests.
