Montreal/Quebec City Trip: How to get there

Jump to last reply

We're planning to drive to Montreal in September for a week long visit and I'm looking for advice on the best way to travel from the Philadelphia area to Montreal to Quebec City and back to Philadelphia.

Since it seems to be a hassle to park in Montreal and Quebec City, I was thinking of renting a car and dropping it off in Montreal and then taking the train to Quebec City. From what I've read on these forums, apparently a car isn't necessary in these two cities. I'm not sure about the return trip. Would it make sense to rent a car in Quebec City and drive home from there or return to Montreal via train, rent a car and drive home from Montreal? Does anyone know if rental car companies allow taking cars across the border?

Thank you for any advice you can offer.
