I noticed in looking at a map of Old Montreal that it's adjacent to the waterfront/pier area. Is the pier area scenic/interesting to visit? Trying to decide which part of Montreal to stay in. The Old part sounds like the most interesting in terms of history and charm. <BR> <BR>Is there anything scenic (natural beauty mostly) between Montreal & New Hampshire/New York? Noticed a 4star inn on Lake Massawippi - is this a neat place to visit? Thanks for taking time to read & respond!

We live in Southern NH and drive to Montreal every chance we get. I-89 is quite scenic and we always stop at the Church Street Marketplace in Burlington (full of shops and restaurants and totally charming with outdoor cafes) to stretch our legs and grab a bite to eat along the way. Also on I-89 in NH is the Lake Sunapee region, which is quite scenic. We love the waterfront in Montreal. Lots to see and do. Wonderful restaurants and nightlife. But, we prefer to stay in the Crescent/St-Catherine neighborhood. Ditto.

I used to live in Monteal, with a 2-3 year old boy. The waterfront, any time of year, was a favorite place.It's got an IMAX theatre, some pretty good snack places, tour boats, etc., plus it is a two minute walk from the historial old part of town, so it's like a free bonus attraction when you visit the old part of the city. The Auberge du Vieux Port (splleing may not be perfect) is a great old hotel, restored to semi-luxury today, and faces the waterfront. Great place to stay, accodring to friends who have been there. <BR>BAK <BR>

Thanks for the responses! I'm getting more excited about seeing Montreal. Brian, glad to know you enjoyed the area with a 2-3 yr. old as we will be traveling with a 4 yr. old & 16 mo. old. <BR> <BR>I've read great things about the Auberge...Port. Do you know whether or not small children are accepted there?

Love it! Montreal old city is the place to stay call 1 888 660 7678 for help planning your stay. It's a small inn and they are very helpfull. Also in Lafayette NY there is an inn look at the someplaces different web site to find it. Or pass by vermont and stop in Essex.

I was in Montreal last winter(beautiful). You HAVE to see the Basilique de Notre Dame! Go to mass (even if your not catholic) it is beautiful and the pipes are unreal. The bleu marin on cresent is GREAT food, check it out in the Fodors Montrel dining.

<BR>I just returned from Montreal yesterday. I stayed in old Montreal at the Auberge Bonaparte. It was wonderful. I highly recommend staying in Old Montreal over downtown as the dowtown area is very similar to any other major city. Old Montreal is quaint, beautiful and historic. There are dozens of little sidewalk cafes, bistros and bars. Old Montreal is adjacent to the St. Lawrence River and there is many things to do... I suggest going on a boat trip down the river. There are many different boat cruise options - from rapid speedboat adventures to romantic dinner cruises. <BR> <BR>I hope you have a great time!
