hi there,

are you talking about the underground like stores and movie theatres in the downtown core stuff?

you can get in by going to the cathedral mall - on st. catherine and that has access to the metro system and other malls. i also know that the bay and eatons have access b/c in the winter we used to walk all the way underground to eatons to shop

hth
j

Hi Teri

I love Montreal and IMHO the Underground City would not be somewhere I would recommend people to visit particularly when in town.

It's essentially an interconnected series of shopping malls that can best be accessed from Metro McGill or Metro Peel. There are some high-fashion clothing stores, bookstores, cinemaplexes and food courts here, mostly chain stores but a few that are not.

I would say, if you love to shop and/or are not jaded by high-end malls in other cities, you might enjoy the Underground City. Otherwise, you'll probably find it ho-hum.

DAN

I used to live in Montreal. The idea of the underground city is to connect as many of the office buildings as possible together to avoid walking outside in the winter.

If visiting in the summer, the only time you would seek out the underground city is to go to a specific store that is not on ground level.

In summer do as the locals do and enjoy a few months of good warm weather.
just back from montreal. I hope you get better weather than we had. 85 and humid, the metro gets a little sticky and the heat takes all the fun out of exploring. The underground area is little more than a mall. We had a lot more fun and cooler weather North in the Laurnetians.

In all the years I lived in Montreal I found that June could get pretty hot and humid. It seems to be less so in July and begins to get cooler in August. Mostly in the evening.

I guess it's because they don't have as much rain then to cool things down.
The weather can be anywhere from beautiful to not so.
