Montreal - Metro from Airport to Downtown
Planning our first trip to Montreal next month and wondered about taking the metro from the airport to the Marriott Chateau Champlain. It seems like a reasonably priced alternative to what appears to be a $40 cab ride.
We're arriving in to Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau (YUL) with carry-on only at about 5:30pm. It looks (from google maps) like it's about a 35-40 minute ride. Do they generally run on time? Is carrying luggage (a carry on bag each) likely to be a hassle? Is the metro likely to be crowded from the airport to the city on a friday evening?
Thanks in advance!
David

Hi David
The metro doesn't go out to the airport. The 747 express city bus (run by the STM) does go there...the express city bus is relatively recent and goes to Berri-UQAM metro; a number of friends I know have taken it and tell me they're quite satisfied. Buses I'd say are reasonably on-time in this city, but can be subject to traffic delays. This express bus I'll tell you is much better than what we had before.
Given that it's express from Trudeau Airport to downtown, it would be filled primarily with airplane passengers who have luggage like yourselves; the only commuters you'd run across would be those who work at the airport. So Friday 5:30pm I would think would be ok from a point of view of crowdedness of the bus, but perhaps as irritating as taxiing from a traffic point of view. Once downtown, you could take a much cheaper cab or pile in the metro from Berri-UQAM to Bonaventure station (this stretch is usually not too bad crowdedness-wise, plus it's only 4 stops, a few minutes).
Best wishes, Daniel

The STM has the 747 bus that runs from the airport to downtown. It is $7 per person including a 24 hour transport pass. There are machines to buy tickets or you can buy your fare on the bus, but it's exact change per person and coin only.
You want the 4th stop, Peel. You can walk from there down to your hotel. At that time of day, expect the trip to take just under one hour. No need to take a taxi or the metro.
