We ate at several nice restaurants - in fact, that is one reason we chose Montreal!. We at a Graziella's - about 5 blocks from the hotel. The food was fabulous if pricey.
Chez L'Epecier - about 3-4 blocks in the other direction - this was on that Rachel Ray recommended and it was better than we even thought it would be. The fresh salad (simple I know) was the best I have had and could have served 4! We had fish and braised lamb shank was fallling off the bone. The "taster" of creme brulee was a great way to end the meal.
A Pied de Cochon - better than we even expected! The foie gras cromesquis were deep fried foie gras that simply exploded with flavor in your mouth. You need to come to this restaurant hungy! The duck in a can was an interesting presentation and was perfectly prepared! This restaurant was a subway ride and several blocks to get to - well worth it!
Tips;
We bought the museum pass that included the subway for 50.00 each - this was a 3 day pass. We visited the botanical gardens (best of all - if you like flowers at all you will be fascinated with this exhibit), biodome(interesting - would be good for kids), MFA (great Waterhouse exhibit), and several other small museums that were in the Old Montreal area- all included in this pass. It is available at most musuems and was well worth the cost.
Conclusion:
We loved this city. We probably could have done everything we wanted in 3-4 days, but we wanted to take our time, enjoy long lunches and search out the perfect evening meal of foie gras! The undergroud was very easy to use and we had no difficulties with our passes.

Trip Ideas
Hi
Glad you enjoyed Montreal. I live here and I've never even been to the restaurants you mentioned, so thanks for your opinions, as lurkers on this site are often looking for restaurants ideas!
A suggestion for future trip reports: I think it's best to keep things as one report, adding additional thoughts as a reply to your own report (especially if you only visit one city or region during a trip). It keeps all your ideas and readers' comments together for easy referral.

Thanks for tip -I will keep it all together next time.
bgr8ful, love your handle! We stayed in the same general area as you and I loved it too. Fois gras would be on my list of things I would want if it were my last day on earth
Thanks for your report.
