Montréal during Grand Prix

Hi. After attending a conference I'm driving up from Boston on Thursday 5th June for the Grand Prix, and I'm booked in to the Hotel Relais Lyonnais, 1595 rue St Denis until the following Monday evening.

TomTom suggests 5.5 hours for the drive - is that a realistic driving time [i.e. not including time for stops?].

I was considering breaking the journey somewhere rural and nice in North Vermont [maybe the Green Mountains?] - any recommendations?

Any dining recommendations near the Relais Lyonnais? I like good quality food of pretty much any style & price, although I do like relaxed brew-pubs.

Many thanks in advance for suggestions.

You will be staying in a very lively, fun part of the city. The St. Denis area is the place to be for dining and nightlife. You will be overwhelmed with dining options - L'Express is a few blocks up St. Denis, and it's a real French bistro. If you walk up to the intersection of St. Denis and Duluth, you will be in the byob restaurant district - lots of fun places like Jardin de Panos, Khybler Pass, etc. Blue Nile is a good Ethiopian place on St. Denis, near Sq. St. Louis. Walk thru Sq. St Louis and you will come to Prince Arthur St, which is lined with outdoor eateries and lots of street entertainment.
As for th drive up, 5.5 hours sounds just about right. I assume you are taking I-89. Nice towns to stop at for a break would include Hanover, NH and Montpelier Vt. They both have lots of good dining options. You will be driving thru some very scenic countryside.

Hi drmarkf,

The drive should be great if you go along the 89...and the timing sound pretty exact. The only delays I think you'll get other than possibly a border wait is downtown Montreal traffic lol! Driving in Montreal is not always the most pleasant experience, but you'll be fine!

As zootsi mentioned St. Denis is literally a top spot for dining. You'll be smack in the middle of it all. Zootsi mentioned L'Epress which is one of my faves, and there's also L'Academie (not the greatest but prices are good and it's byob), there's also Juliette et Chocolat which I've heard great things about....it's not far from L'Epress.

On St.Denis you'll be able to find everything from Afghan to tapas within just a few blocks so you shouldn't have an issue.

Enjoy your trip, Montreal is a fun place Grand Prix weekend...make sure to stop by Crescent st. at some point, they always have some fun stuff set up for that weekend like car shows etc etc.

Fonduementale on st denis is one of my favorites.

Make sure you reserve ahead of time, it's a busy time in restaurants on grand prix weekend, although less so on st denis street and in old montreal.
