Mixed Reaction to the 'Cat' Ferry

We have been told the quickest way to Nova Scotia is to go on the Cat Ferry, only 3 hrs.
I have heard it is a 'ride from hell' with tourists throwing up, not enough bathrooms for those who are sick, etc. Has anyone had an experience, good or bad on the ferry?
We were told to drive up to Calais and cross over to New Brunswick and then to Nova Scotia. HELP!
