We're headed for and across Newfoundland in the middle of September, via Saint John, Baddeck, Channel-Port aux Basques, Gros Morne Nat'l Park (Rocky Point), L'Anse aux Meadows (St Anthony), Deer Lake, Twillingate and Trinity. It'll take us about 7-8 days from Port aux Basques to St John's, and we're catching the year's last ferry from Argentia. We're thinking of staying at the Silver Dart in the Baddeck, N.S. area prior to the ferry, Saint Christopher's Hotel in P. aux Basques, and have, so far, no reservations for anywhere else, although Balmoral House (B & B Inn) in St John's comes recommended. Does anybody have any suggestions for accommodation at any of these stops, or suggestions for other off-the-Trans-Canada-route explorations, besides the Northern and Bonavista Peninsulas and Twillingate? Any comments at all would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

I can recommend Bayside Housekeeping Units in Rocky Harbour. We stayed four nights in a cabin there in late August 2001 and were very pleased. By then the travel season was waning so you will have no trouble finding places in mid-September.
Dear Davidess, you are making a good choice about the Silver Dart in Baddeck. From Baddeck to North Sydney where you get the ferry to Newfoundland is about an Hours (1) drive.
