Maine to NS, PEI

Hi there - my parents have recently retired to Kennebunkport, ME. I would like to plan about about a week long vacation for them to Prince Edward Island and possibly Novia Scotia. Trying to determine if the ferry is the best way to go or if driving would work better. Their main interest is visiting PEI but I have also heard great things about Cape Breton. they don't mind driving on vacation but also don't like to constantly jump locations. Could anyone suggest a good itinerary? And must sees? Also, I would appreciate any hotel/restaurants recommendations.

They are moderately active as far as hikes, walking, etc. they enjoy local culture, museums, general sightseeing, food and wine and overall beautiful scenery. They have visited Ireland and Scotland several times and enjoy the Gaelic culture - which is why I was drawn to including Cape Breton. Open to any ideas!

Thanks, so much!

Hmmmmm, I never saw this prior to now.

But I think you'd do best to include some sense of what you'd like to do, and then have Fodorites tweak your initial ideas.

At any rate, I answer plenty of threads relating to travel in the Maritimes, and if you click on my name up above this reply, you can find a list of them, and draw ideas from a few of those.
