Lubec to Hopewell

My husband and I have four to five days to travel to Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. We live in Maine and are wondering if it's going to be similar to our costal scenery. We enjoy driving to each destination but don't want to be on the road so much we won't have time to hike, go whale watching, or just enjoy the costal scenery.

We've only been as far as Bar Harbor and would like to go to Lubec/Campobello and then into New Brunswick. We can't do Cape Breton this trip because it's just too much driving with not enough time to enjoy the island. We'll be flying in eventually to go to Cape Breton.

Here's the two choices so far:

Drive from southern Maine to Lubec, then on to New Brunswick (St Andrews, St John, St Martin, Hopewell) seeing sights along the way between these areas. I've done some research and know of a few things to see but wanted to see if we could get some suggestions on what not to miss and where we might stay. We prefer hotels over B&Bs. We love the outdoors, hiking and seeing the beautiful scenery. I really want to see whales and the tides.

Our other option is to take the Cat round trip to Yarmouth and spend the entire time around exploring around Yarmouth, Digby, and southern coast. We were going to take the Cat to Yarmouth and then drive to New Brunswick and then home but we realized that was just too much driving.

Anyway, we are still up in the air on what/where we are going so any suggestions are very welcome.
