Louisburg children's program

My 9-year-old daughter and I are planning a trip to Nova Scotia in July 2003. I would like information on the children's program at the Fortress of Louisburg. Has anyone's child participated? I would love as many details as possible, including cost. One program at another site -- Village Historique Acadien in Caraquet, New Brunswick -- sound like just what I'm looking for, but it's pretty far away from the rest of our itinerary. Would it be worth going to both of these sites? Thanks for your help!

My kids did not do the children's program when we were there in 1992 (too long ago to be up to date, I know).

I just wanted to mention that you should eat other than in the fortress. The food is sort of authentic and fairly tasteless. It is not gussied up colonial food as in Colonial Williamsburg, VA. Having eaten at Louisbourg once, again, eat before you enter.

By the way, after doing more research, I learned that Louisbourg has a children's program, but it is one week long -- mainly for local children, I suppose -- and has a waiting list of 2-3 years. However, at the nearby Highland Village in Iona, I learned that my daughter can dress like a Scottish lass for a day, learn a little Gaelic, participate in historical activities, and eat lunch for $30 Canadian. You can be sure we'll be doing that!

We did not do the children's program but did spend a day here here in June, unexpectedly and am so glad we did!! It was very foggy which meant that the cabot trail would be pretty much a no-see so we headed over to Louisburg. Our son was absolutely delighted and so were we. It is a big place so you should give yourselves the entire day to see it. Also, in regards to the comment above about food. We ordered something simple in one of the restaurants and I think our son was happy enough to be served with no implements by someone in costume in an authentic 200 yr.old restaurant than to worry so much about taste. It was a memorable experience for him and he absolutely loved the whole place.
