Looking for the best hospital to deliver in Vancouver + Ob/Gyn
I don't live in Canada but we are going deliver in Vancouver as my husband is Canadian but I have no idea about the hospitals and Ob/Gyn options available. Basically I will be 34 weeks when I arrive (first baby) and need help in finding the best places to go to. We are not residents so we are going to take on all the cost of the bills which seems to be limiting my options in Vancouver. Can someone please recommend? I just want to find the right hospital and Dr. for the remaining of my pregnancy and for a smooth delivery at a well equipped hospital.

Give this service a look: www.copemanhealthcare.com It is a private primary care clinic, a rarity in Canada. If you give them a call and explain your situation, I expect they will be able to provide the care you are looking for. I don't recall the name of the hospital my daughter delivered at 6 years ago, but they will steer you in the right direction.
You don't say where you live or your own citizenship but I am assuming American. Wouldn't it easier to have Baby in your home community and then apply for Canadian citizenship?
Best wishes to you.

I doubt BC Health Care would be much help. They fund all the hospitals, which all have to meet the same standards, so on what basis could they recommend the 'best' ones? Local medical associations may keep a list of doctors who are accepting new patients, but since not all of them accept patients from outside the publicly funded system that may not be much help. And Ob/GYN practitioners may only accept patients referred by a family doc, which the OP does not have locally.

I delivered two of my children at BC Women's and one at Lions Gate Hopsital in North Vancouver. Both were fabulous. My youngest was in the NICU (intensive care) at Lion's Gate for a month and we had top notch service and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I went with the Lion's Gate Maternity Clinic which is a group of doctors delivering at Lion's Gate who offer pre natal care. It was good since my dr was across town and I needed to deliver closer to home. You can google them.
Another option is to go with a midwife. On the north shore there are several really reputable practices where you receive really personalized care and can deliver in the hospital. I know there are very good midwife practices in other areas of Vancouver too.
Hope this helps.

You would do better to post your question on a more relevant forum such as this one:
