Looking for a hotel outside of Montreal

We are trying to visit relatives over Father's Day weekend but they are holding their Grand Prix even in Montreal during that time.

As such, hotels in Montreal are charging around $350 USD per night. Any thoughts on towns outside of Montreal - I heard Laval is about a 30 minute drive. The deposit and cancellation policies are very restrictive and we are looking for something that is at most 30 minutes away and with decent cancellation policies (e.g., 3 day notice).

Thanks.

As long as you insist on visiting during possibly the busiest time of the entire year for Montreal hotels, surpassing the Jazz Festival which falls soon after--look on Expedia and see what Laval offers. The Sheraton in Laval is right next to the wonderful, gorgeously redone Carrefour Laval, which has especially great shopping for young people. With discount sites like Expedia you have to pay in advance, but through any hotel's own site you can get industry standard cancellation policy--24 hours in advance. To get there, take 13 north from the TransCanada to 440 east in Laval. It is about half an hour from downtown, though you will be going on some heavy-traffic highways.

Lois,

Some of these hotels don't have their own website (e.g., Quality Suites). So I'm still facing very restrictive cancel policies.

Are you aware of any other towns other than Laval that would be less than 30 minute drive into Montreal?

I was able to find the website for Quality Suites but the cancel policy is 14 days for one in Point Claire.

Any other towns outside of Montreal that is no more than 30 minutes away?

Why do you need the cancellation policy?

I think more and more you can't have it both ways. If they are giving away rooms at low cost, they want you to commit so people don't cancel at the last minute. If you want more generous cancellation policies, you will have to pay more.

Pointe Claire is possibly a few minutes closer to downtown Montreal than the Sheraton in Laval. All these places will be busy accommodating overflow clients from the Grand Prix rush. I have never heard of 14-day advance cancellation policy with any hotel company, except maybe for a deep-discount deal. Don't understand, if budget is an issue, why you don't just go another weekend.

I have stayed at the Quality Inn in Pointe Claire - it isn't far from Montreal at all - 20 minutes depending on how you drive...there is also a really nice Holiday Inn in Pointe Claire that is virtually a street or two over from the Quality...may be the same policy though...but both good accomodations!

Oops. Father's Day weekend is June 19-20th. Grand Prix is one week earlier. I don't need a room during the Grand Prix. So I have much to choose during Father's Day weekend. I was looking at the Hotel Le Fauberg Suites - nice sized rooms and a kitchen - perfect for my two infants.

Dear Mxylplik2, I can heartily recommend the Faubourg. My daughter attends school in Montreal, and we always stay there when we visit. Check the website (www.hotelfaubourg.com) for the Last Minute Deals rate.
