Last minute trip to Montreal, need hotel and other ideas!

In your price range, which I assume is $US 100 to 150, I recommend the Auberge du Vieux Port and the Auberge les Passants du Sans Soucy.

How is this area for accessing sightseeing, restaurants, bars, etc?

There is an ongoing labour dispute at the Omni. Services are most likely severely curtailed and it's possible you will have to cross a picket line.

Really?? How long has this been going on for and what else can you tell me about it?

I'm reading that the train from Montreal to Quebec city is about 3 hours, does this sound right? We are considering a day trip.

I liked the Hotel XIX Siecle very much. Got a great deal on luxury link.
Nice large rooms and a great breakfast buffet.

Try Sofitel which is kitty corner to the OMNI on Sherbrooke.

I just stayed at the Hotel XIXeme Siecle in the Old Quarter and also recommend it very highly. It was great, couldn't ask for a nicer hotel, and it's a good location in the old quarter. The Omni isn't in the old quarter, anyway. I paid a little more than you want (about $160), but the rates were higher because of the holiday weekend, I think. I saw cheaper rates at other times on www.quikbook.com and some other sites.

We have also made reservations at Toque! I think that Les Halles is closed now?

We've checked with the Omni and there isn't any room service but everything else is normal. I checked some other recommendations from here but the prices were over our $150/night as I guess Sept. is still high season.

Any recommendations on places to hit at night after dinner? Swanky bars or places with great music. The guys aren't big dancers so we need something not disco like

Suggestions for places to go/do:
-Old Port- and up the hill from the old port toward the government buildings. Restaurants are plentiful and very good in this district. Shops and sites abound.
-St. Catherine Street- shopper's paradise. Many up-scale stores with cheaper bargain places wedged in between
-The park on top of Mont Royal- nice place to relax (once you get there) and an incomparable view of the city and the St. Lawrence
-if you have time, do try to make a drive up to Quebec City (about 21/2 hrs). If not, visit the southshore across the river from Montreal and stop in the old part (NOT THE NEW) of the village of Longueil. Some unexpected, quaint surprises will greet you.

Stormygirl - Had to grin when I read of another kindred spirit - sounds like you made your restaurant reservation before the hotel res! That's what I seem to do often! We are heading for Montreal on the 26th to celebrate our anniversary.
