Jasper - what to do in the rain
We will be in Jasper this weekend and it appears it will rain most of the time. We are staying at the Maligne Lodge. What are the best activities on rainy days?

I would not put much faith in the forecast -generally it's only reliable about a day out. And often still not that helpful until the same day.
The key is that it rarely rains all day - usually you're looking at afternoon thunderstorms or brief morning showers. So even a day with a forecast of 60% chance of rai can be beautiful and clear until after noon. And then only cloudy until late afternoon.
The best advice is to make sure you have good rain gear and then wake up and see what the weather is actually doing. As long as it's not thunder/lightning, you can still hike in cloudy or rainy weather. Just use common sense - if it's wet, not a day to be on trails that have slippery rock or lots of stream crossings.
You can still go to Maligne Canyon - often drier down there and still see Maligne Lake. Or see if the forecast is different over at Mt. Robson.
In Jasper, there is the rec centre with pool etc. Plus the little heritage museum, the movie theatre and shops. And the planetarium.

Thanks so much for your reply. We have been looking forward to this trip to Jasper for quite some time and have been bummed looking at the weather forecast. Hopefully, you are right. It won't rain constantly. Rain or not, we hope to get in some outdoor activities. The museum and planetarium might be decent bad weather options. We really don't want to do things in Jasper that we can do at home.
