Hi Frisky...while having never been on a tour, I have encountered all sorts of wildlife in the national park, mostly while driving into the town limits or on the way to Calgary. Of course there are the resident elk, fewer now, but they are around. As for moose, they are elusive, if you see one, you are lucky. They are majestic and spectacular. As well as bears. I would suggest a trip to Mount Edith Cavell and up to Maligne Lakem Maligne Canyon and Medicine Lake, AWESOME. Around Maligne you may see some sheep.

Frisky, we saw a lot more wildlife in the Jasper area than the Lake Louise area. There was really no need to consider a tour. We saw elk on the edge of town one day, and elk and deer around our cabin.
Stew has given you good areas to check out. My husband and I saw elk, sheep, a coyote and a bear on an evening drive to Maligne Hot Springs {the springs were closed, unfortunately, because of fire - don't know if its reopened}. On another drive, on our way to hike Mt.Edith Cavell,we saw elk and a bear with its cub. One afternoon, we saw an eagle while on a short hike, and another coyote on our return drive to our cabin. I should note that, while we saw some wildlife mid-day, viewing animals is much more likely in the evening and wee hours of the morning. It stays late very late in the summer, so we were hiking at 9 pm!
Mountain goats seem to be a bit more elusive than other animals - we saw some only once, as they took off up a mountain. We did see plenty of deer. We saw nary a moose.

My husband and I were lucky enough to see a moose on a drive out to Maligne Lake. We also encountered an angry elk circling us on a hike and were lucky to escape unharmed. We saw plenty other elk from safe distances and we saw a group of mountain goats or rams feeding on the ice fields parkway. Its such a wonderful area - good luck!
