hi there,
we'd love to go to Vancouver- but we need to be able to access the internet in a convenient and reasonably-priced way. Haven't traveled out of the US for awhile- so, how do you do that??!!
Also, any tips on phone calls? thanks-

The internet is easy enough, if you have a computer with a wireless internet connection.
Lots of restaurants, cafes, hotel lobbies, other places where you can connect after you buy some sort of prepaid card which you can buy easily.
Most hotels have internet connections.
Cell phones usually work automatically. Just dial the number you want.
BEWARE of the fees; best to check with your cell phone company in the USA and ask advice. There are lots of North America p[rograms fromUS cell phone companies that save lots of money if you talk a lot.
Cheapest is to buy a phone card at home and use it in pay phones.

Try public libraries, don't know about Vancouver particularly but in Toronto you just walk in and sit down.
There are internet cafes around Vancouver but unlike Europe aren't dirt cheap. Best bet is to bring your own laptop if you have wireless. You can log on in most hotels, some coffee shops, and all Starbucks for free . If you use your cellphone to dial a local # I don't think it's long distance but anyone calling your cellphone, both will be charged long distance (and it's pricey). I recommend you buy a prepaid phone card at home & then use your cell phone. You dial a phone # on the card, punch in a special code, and then you get so many minutes..... you are not charged extra long-distance fees.
