How to get from Oakville GO to 407 ETR?

I am driving from Niagara to meet somebody @ the Oakville GO station. From there, I want to get to the 407 ETR going East, then exit @ highway 27 North & then to head North from Highway 27 to cottage country.
How do I get from Oakville GO to the 407 ETR East?
I checked 407 ETR wesite map but it is useless.

The person I am meeting is coming from downtown Toronto. He could take GO north, instead of West to Oakville, & meet me somewhere off the 407. If we do it that way, where should I exit from the 407?

There are many ways to do this.

Irecommend is correct if you both meet in Oakville.

Before I suggest options, two questions for you :

1. What time do you want to - or need to - meet each other ?, and
2. Do you have to take Hgy 27 north, or can you take Hgy 400 to cottage country ? If he takes GO north there are 2 GO stations just off Hgy 400 which you can easily get to to pick him up and get back on Hgy 400 north. Trouble is that the train service to those stations from Union downtown only runs from 4.00pm - 6.00pm. However there is a frequent GO bus service to those stations from Union throughout the day and it's quite fast.

Let me know and I'll try to help.

Nothing is as easy as we may wish.

But anyway, Oakville GO to Highway 407:

There are waiting areas for cars picking up passengers on both the north and south sides of the train tracks at the Oakville Station.

Tell your friend to meet you on the north side, which is the side with a VIA station and a GO Station building. (the south just has a small entrance to stairs leading to tracks)

There's half a dozen rows where you can park and wait for the train, in line with other cars. Your friend will either come out of the GO Station or just walk from the tracks, depending on which track the train arrives on.

It's easy to find people and cars.

There's only one obvious road out of the parking area, which ends at Cross Avenue, where there are traffic lights.

There's a Tim Horton's to the left if you need coffee for the road, and a McDonald's to the right, if you need some food.

REGARDLESS, you want to turn right - east onto Cross Avenue and drive to the second traffic lights, which are at a big wide street. This is Trafalgar Road. Turn left - north onto Trafalgar and just keep driving north.

(NOTE: references to north, south, etc are approximate because streets twist and turn in Oakville)

Keep driving north on Trafalgar past shopping centers andSheridan College and houses and apartments, and eventually you'll come to Dundas Street.

Cross Dundas and keep going north. Now mostly you will be in the country.

A fewbminutes and you'll be at the entrance to highway 407.

ALTERNATIVE

Depending on the time of day, you can save some of the tolls on 407 and perhaps even save some time.

When you come out of the GO Station onto Cross and then turn north on Trafalgar, the first exit is to the Queen Elizabeth Way and, sort of like a layer over top of it, highway 403

As you approach the Ford factory, follow the signs for Highway 403 and Toronto, and move off of the QEW and onto 403. (This requires keeping right)

Highway 403 will take you to an entrance to Highway 407 in Mississauga.

Or you could stay on 403 which merges into 401 which intrests with highway 400 which takes you to cottage country.

CONCLUSION: most straight forward is Trafalgar Road straight north to 407.

Quickest is QEW/403 to 403 by the Ford plant to 407.

Hope this is more helpful than confusing.

I'm late chimming in.. I'm away, so I'm not thinking straight about alternatives... but agree wtih what has been said. North on Trafalgar, onto the QEW east, and onto the 403...and then onto the 407. .. I think that's quicker than hgoing up Trafalgar.

But I'm thinking about what Mathieu is saying. There might be a better choice than Oakville. Streestville? If I was at home I could check it out.. Good luck with it.

Thinking about if more.. Oakvill makes sense.. The Go station is very close to the QEW.. you will he able to get off the highway, and into the GO stations easily...and then back onto the QEW ,as BAK said, and onto the 403.. it's only a couple of kms til you can enter the 407 from the 403.

Same idea if you end up using the 400 to go cottage country. He could take the GO train or Bus from Union to Rutherford or King City station and you could meet him at either one which is just a couple of Kms off the 400. Very easy to get on or off.
