My friend is worried that Cape Breton Island during the Celtic Colours Festival will be very crowded, with the attendant difficulties like obtaining accomodations, finding tables in restaurants, and just the whole too many people thing. We haven't set our itinerary yet, but we'll probably fly to Halifax on Sunday, have a day at the Bay of Fundy, and then drive to CBI on Tuesday, spending maybe two nights in Cheticamp and two in Ingonish. What can I tell her about the likely crowds at that time?
How crowded will Cape Breton Island be for the Celtic Colours Festival?

We just returned from CB-did the Cape Breton Highlands drive (clockwise) stopped to hike, had lunch in Cheticamp, and dinner at several highly recommended restaurants along the way, overnighting in Baddeck and attending a local Ceilidh there.
Although I absolutely endorse making overnight reservations in advance, the food thing is not an issue nor were the hiking trails, tourist lookouts or interesting stores crowded at all.
The Ceilidh in Baddeck always books up during the day of performance: use the telephone numbers posted in the town to book in advance--this is a must-not miss thing to do-superb performers of Celtic music for $10 a head!
I can't answer your question but would love to attend some events at Celtic Colours--not this year, unfortunately. I have been on the website and it sounds amazing. Have you purchased any tickets? If you go, I would love if you would report back.
