We are travelling through New Brunswick on our way to Nova Scotia. Are there any recommended decent budget hotels in either St. John or Moncton. Also does anyone know the approximate travelling time from Calais, MAine, to Amherts Nova Scotia? Or: travelling time from St. John, N.S. to Truro, N.S.
Is the major highway the best route?
Also - any interesting/scenic stops along the way that we might not want to miss?
Many thanks for anyone's help in advance.

Go from Maine to Campebello Island, and then to Deer Island, and then to the new Brunswick mainland,if you are not in a hurry.

Dear Heather,
Brian's suggested route is a beautiful, scenic one if you have lots of time. Instead, I would be tempted to travel the divided highway to Saint John,N.B. with a stop in St Andrews.Entering the city you shall find 2 or 3 decent hotels on your left.Following either a stay or a quick visit continue on the main highway to Moncton or you might like to take a side trip to Fundy National Park and Hopewell Rocks and end up in Moncton as well. With regards to hotels in Moncton there are 3 decent ones as you enter their city at Magnetic Hill-which certainly is something worth experiencing.Don't miss the Tidal Bore in Moncton or at the Rocks.Approximate driving times with no stops:
- Calais> Saint John-1& 1/4 Hrs.
- Saint John >Moncton-1& 1/2 Hrs.
- Moncton> Amherst<N.S.-35 Min.
- Amherst> Truro- 50 Min.

If you have any more questions contact me for I live near Saint John.
Do have a lovely visit to the Maritimes- Provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Isla
Heather, In Moncton there are a lot of decent budget hotels....try either "Keddy's" they're an Atlantic chain, not fancy but usually a good bargain. If you're in St John on the weekend the Delta usually has a deal or two and has the best city location. In Amherst the only good choice is the Wandlyn. If you're in a hurry take the highway but if you have the time take the "sunrise" trail from Amherst into the Truro area...it gives you a nice look at an underrated part of NS. Drop me a line if you have any ?s. Rob
